Up For Auction / CSX1000 ACE/Shelby Cobra
« on: November 12, 2020, 10:08:29 AM »
This Shelby Cobra is one of just 14 CSX1000 continuation models produced by Shelby American and AC Cars during the early-to-mid 2000s. The car, chassis CSX1006, was ordered new by the current owner in December 2004 through Gateway Performance of Chesterfield, Missouri. Delivered in February 2006, it features a hand-formed aluminum body finished in Le Mans Blue with Wimbledon White stripes. Power comes from a “Carroll Shelby Signature Series” V8 engine, which displaces 468 cubic inches and features an aluminum FE block, aluminum cylinder heads, forged connecting rods, forged pistons, roller rockers, and a hydraulic lifter camshaft. The car is also equipped with a five-speed manual gearbox, Salisbury differential, rack-and-pinion steering, four-wheel disc brakes, knock-off wheels, side pipes, black leather upholstery, Shelby-branded instrumentation, and a driver’s roll hoop. This CSX1000 Cobra now shows 1,700 miles and is offered on behalf of the original owner with a copy of its build sheet and a clean Kansas title that describes the car as a 2006 model year.

Aluminum bodywork was hand formed by AC Cars of the UK and is finished in Le Mans Blue with Wimbledon White racing stripes. Features include side pipes with Cobra-branded heat shields, plexiglass wind wings, a single roll hoop, a Raydot-style aluminum side mirror, and Shelby badging. The finish and trim are shown up close in the gallery below.

Halibrand-style 15″ knock-off wheels feature painted centers and are mounted with Goodyear Eagle GT II tires sized 235/60 up front and 295/50 out back. Disc brakes are fitted at all four corners and utilize Shelby-branded calipers over cross-drilled and slotted rotors.

The cockpit is upholstered in black leather and features matching-color carpets. Equipment includes a wood-rimmed steering wheel, Simpson safety harnesses, plexiglass sun visors, and Cobra-branded floor mats. The dashboard was signed by Carroll Shelby and is fitted with a plaque identifying the car as CSX1006. A fire extinguisher is located on the center tunnel, between the seats.

Shelby-branded instrumentation from AutoMeter includes a 180-mph, reverse-sweep speedometer along with an 8k-rpm tachometer and gauges for oil temperature, coolant temperature, voltage, oil pressure, and fuel level. Approximately 1,700 miles are shown on the five-digit odometer.

The all-aluminum Shelby 427 FE V8 displaces 468ci thanks to a SCAT stroker crankshaft, SCAT forged H-beam connecting rods, and Arias forged pistons. Induction is via a Holly four-barrel carburetor mounted on a dual-plane intake manifold, and cooling is managed by an aluminum radiator and front-mount oil cooler. Additional features include a Crower hydraulic lifter camshaft, MSD 6AL ignition system, McLeod 12″ clutch, Hays steel flywheel, and finned Shelby valve covers.

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / Another Thermactor question.
« on: November 03, 2020, 02:53:13 AM »
I hadn't been paying close attention, but when visiting another forum member, he pointed out that the support strut on the driver's side thermactor tube assembly was removed on GT500s.

Just wondering if anyone knows why this was done and has anyone observed their strut being present originally?

Up For Auction / '65 GT350 SFM5S048 on BaT
« on: August 19, 2020, 09:34:41 AM »
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1965-shelby-mustang-gt350-5/

This 1965 Shelby Mustang GT350 is one of the first 50 examples built and was completed at the original Shelby headquarters in Venice, California before production of the model shifted to a facility near Los Angeles International Airport. SFM5S048 was originally ordered from a Chicago dealer by a Minneapolis SCCA member, who attempted to drive it home to Minnesota after taking delivery but suffered an engine failure along the way that required the warranty installation of a new engine. The first owner proceeded to campaign the car in road-racing competition until selling it in 1966 to the second owner, who continued racing it while making several R-model-style updates. The car remained with its third owner for 20 years before being acquired in 1988 by its fourth owner, who had it for 12 years. Finished in Wimbledon White with blue Le Mans stripes, the car retains its warranty-replacement 289ci HiPo V8, which is paired with a Borg-Warner T10 four-speed manual transmission and a Detroit Locker differential. Early modifications include cylinder-head upgrades, an R-style front fascia, larger brake-cooling ducts, a larger radiator, plexiglass rear quarter windows, and a 1966 instrument cluster, while recent additions include an R-style fuel tank and MSD ignition. Acquired by the seller in July 2019, this GT350 is now offered in Maui, Hawaii with historical documents, photos from its racing career, a collection of parts, owner’s manuals, and a clean Montana title in the seller’s name.

Up For Auction / '67 GT500 on BaT
« on: August 15, 2020, 01:35:34 PM »

This 1967 Shelby Mustang is one of 2,048 GT500 fastbacks produced for the model year and was completed on January 24, 1967. The car was sold new by Stark Hickey Ford in Royal Oak, Michigan, and was purchased by the seller in 2006 as a project from Mason’s Hot Rods of Spartanburg, South Carolina. A multi-year rotisserie restoration was subsequently carried out and included a repaint in black with white stripes. Power comes from a rebuilt 428ci Police Interceptor V8 that is backed by an optional Select-O-Matic three-speed automatic transmission. Other factory options include the Extra Cooling Package, power steering and brakes, a tachometer, shoulder belts, and a fold-down rear seat. About 1,000 miles have been added by the seller since the restoration was completed in 2013. This GT500 is now offered with a copy of its original invoice, an Elite Marti Report, restoration photos and invoices, and a clean Georgia title in the seller’s name.

The GT500 was added to the Shelby lineup in 1967 as a higher-powered alternative to the GT350. Chuck McHose and Peter Brock were tasked with styling the 1967 Shelby Mustangs in order to visually distinguish them from other Mustang variants. This included adding a fiberglass trunk lid with an integrated Kamm-type rear spoiler, an elongated fiberglass hood and nose extension, horizontal sequential taillights, and functional brake ducts on the rear quarter panels.

This example was originally painted Lime Gold and during the restoration was refinished in black by Mason’s Hot Rods of Spartanburg, South Carolina. Exterior features include white Rallye stripes and center-mounted high beams. The finish and trim are shown up close in the photo gallery below.

1969-1970 Shelby GT350/500 / Designers of the fiberglass
« on: August 07, 2020, 10:58:03 AM »
I believe the fiberglass of the '69-'70's to be one of the most inspired, beautiful designs to ever come out of Detroit (Dearborn) and enjoy discussing them with my buddy of 41 years.

With that said, we came to a question I wasn't sure about. I always thought the overall design was an in-house Ford design that was never really credited to one team or individual.

Am I mistaken?
