Hey all!

Peterson Auto Museum has posted details for their annual Shelby cruise in on Jan 6th. They expect 400+ Shelby Mustangs and Cobras to attend!
RSVP here:
https://www.petersen.org/events/2019/1/21/annual-carroll-shelby-cruise-in

This year they've also created an event the evening prior to the cruise in (Sat Jan 5th 6-9pm) celebrating Carroll. Here's a quote:
"In celebration of Carroll Shelby's legacy and his contributions to automotive engineering and motorsports as a whole, the Petersen will be hosting an exclusive 2-day event featuring a once-in-a-lifetime panel discussion of legendary drivers, Forza driving competition and live entertainment."
You can purchase tickets here:
https://www.petersen.org/shelby-tribute#utm_source=Shelby&utm_medium=Shelby%20Teaser%2011.30.18&utm_campaign=11.30.18

Hopefully see a bunch of you at the cruise in!

The Lounge / Re: portable battery jumper

I've had this DeWalt unit for over a year and it's top notch!

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XD6XBCM/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

What I love about it is it has the following built-in: battery jumper, digitally controlled air compressor, bright LED lights, USB charging ports, and alternator tester. I've used everything except the alternator tester. The air comp I've actually used more than anything as it allows you to set the tire pressure then click pump and it will stop pumping once that PSI is reached. Additionally, the battery easily allows pumping up 4 car tires and it'll still have 80% battery. I leave the unit in my trunk and take it out every 1-2 months to recharge it and the battery is usually still close to full.

Good thread!

I don't own a Shelby yet but my '66 was purchased as a disassembled shell in 2003, when I was 21, and it took a while for me to build. I can definitely relate to the feeling many have regarding never selling, as I only recently truly sorted everything allowing me to reliably drive distances. Now that I can finally enjoy her out and about I'm certainly not going to sell.

Looks like I'm one of the younger owners with *only* 15-years time.  ;) My father bought 6s1097 in the late-80s and I was able to restore the car with him throughout my teenage years, which developed my life-long passion for Shelby Mustangs!

Most '66s didn't come with over-the-top (LeMans) stripes from SA, many dealers/owners added them though. In '66 the side stripes were the 3M tape style, including the "GT350" portion. The LeMans stripes for '66 were painted with Chevy commercial white, as Wimbledon white was deemed not bright enough, per Chuck Cantwell's book.

You guys know how hard its been not talking about this since March? I have had to call Pete several times and threaten to have Fuller shoot a missile at him if he didn't hush. Glad its finally out so I can relax, well at least relax about trying to keep it quiet. Now we have to start the work part. The response has been great so far. Over 400K likes on the Facebook page and we've already received 5 new photos. The media and PR team from Barrett Jackson has done an amazing job. I will share with Pete and he can post as soon as I get the ok from Scottsdale. Going to be a fun journey bringing these 2 special coupes back to life.

For those not on Facebook, please continue sharing photos/updates on here or the Little Red website.
Definitely looking forward to following the restoration and to hopefully seeing it in person once done.
Will Craig have these two coupes at shows/events after restoration?

Thanks!

How long has Craig had the Green Hornet? Was that car's location always known?

Yea, all the wealthy types I know wear the newest iWatch, FitBit, etc. Having a Rolex or similar used to represent not only affluence but it was dead accurate; with tech advancements the mechanical precision isn't nearly as important.

Regarding driving mulholland drive, don't bother, or at least go before 7am on a Sat/Sun. That road has historical significance but it's so regularly traveled by tourist buses, locals, maintenance workers, etc that it's a mess of traffic and potholes. Every time I've gone I've gotten stuck behind a dump truck or EconoLine Van with the top cut off for tourists to look across the LA basin.

Angeles Crest Highway out to Newcomb's Ranch is a blast and the only traffic is motorcycles and Porsches. Definitely a better drive.

Yea, the In-N-Out Shelby artwork is common to many locations so definitely cruise inside to see it. I didn't find posters on their website but they do offer a canvas painted version of the '66 GT350 artwork (.... for $220  :o):
https://shop.in-n-out.com/vault48/at-the-beach-canvas.html

For the pictures being rotated with an iPhone, that's usually caused when you Lock your screen's rotation to vertical but then rotate the phone horizontal when taking photos.

Thanks for sharing the SAAC43 photos!

Jeff what a generous thing to do; but you do these types of things fairly often.

One question would this information be correct for a 66?

Thanks - Doug

Thanks Jeff for all the time and information!

Doug - Jeff has a '66 specific SJ undercarriage guide posted in the Concoursmustang Document Library.

Edit: Here's the link (I believe you must be logged into their site):

Here's the info from the previous SAAC forum which I have saved in a Word doc:

There are 2 spacers and they act as a crush tube between the tach mount bracket and the metal dash board. The screws go through them. You have to drill or wad punch two 1/2" holes in the dash pad and one for the wiring.

Just pulled original tach (4/2/66) and dash pad off 6S2020.
Screws are Phillips pan heads 1-5/16" long.
Spacers are 11/16" L, 1/2" OD, 1/16" wall

Wire cover: It is typically a rubber sheath not heat shrink. Heat shrink is too thin a wall. You can take a larger size of heat shrink and shrink it down to a comparable diameter size that has a closer to correct wall thickness but it is hard to do it without the heat shrink having wrinkles in it which will not look correct. The sheath slides over the wires.  It is not tight like heat shrink would do.

Remove Tach: take the nut off the back of the bracket holding the tach to it, (so you have access to the two screws holding the bracket to the dash) pull the two screws out, pull the instrument cluster out (mark all the wires) (disconnect the speedo cable) wd40 the three tach wire connections, this is to hopefully unplug them without breaking them. pull wires thru dash hole. reverse when tach is fixed.
