Both, since the cragar lug wrench won't fit the standard jack that came with the car.

The last stingray example was probably used as reference for the reserve.  Whoever on the BaT auction side that worked with the seller seems like they were easily persuaded.

Can you say "shill" ?

Seems the BaT crowd got spoon fed.

So I will ask this: IS THIS THE LAST 1966 SHELBY FASTBACK BUILT IN 1966? THE ABSOLUTE LAST? IS IT DOCUMENTED WITH SA RECORDS? Thanks as I'm tired of hearing that BaT wouldn't say it if it wasn't true.

Howard is probably the only one that could answer that question.  Not sure if he has the production data broken down for '66 like they have for '65.

I'd be curious if 166K met the reserve. Going from 101K to 166K is "interesting". One guy said it was a time capsule. This car doesn't even come close to being a time capsule.
How can one prove that this 66 is the last one built. Were the latter part of 66 production were they built in strict order? Paperwork on the "last car"?

I was trying to be nice in my response about the car being a time capsule, about spit up my morning tea when I read it, lol!  When I read their next comment about they hadn't seen another Shelby with original traction bars intact, I knew it was a lost cause to reply again.

Howard may know the completed dates for '66 cars, it's not in the registry.  That detail is in the '65 registry and there were 2 more days of production and 7 cars completed after the last '65 s/n, 5S562.  I doubt there was any effort to complete cars in order during the '66 run.

Only time I would expect to sell something at a discount to a dealer would be when I contacted the dealer directly to inquire if they're interested in purchasing.  Totally get that they have to make a profit.  This is only necessary when fire-selling or need to unload quickly... or have a lot of items to unload at once.

Some of the prices I've been seeing on parts over the past few years will take your breath away.  I'm not sure if I'm out of line on the bezel, it seems like a lot, but I haven't seen one of these offered this nice in a long time.  Seems most of the available NOS stock these days are the 2nds/3rds/4ths...

Maybe you can answer a question about the 1 inch sway bar. Was it painted black or just black from heat treatment?  Thanks

Guess I started this  ;D

That small hole is something seen now and then, but wouldn't consider it the norm.  Likely happened when making the hole was missed on the assembly line and done later with a long pointed punch/hammer.  Maybe something done by a specific worker/shift during a particular time during the production year.  I have examples of early cars, including 5S003 (Oct '64 build) that have the larger hole and other '65 GT350's and K codes built at San Jose.  My early carryover car has the normal larger size choke cable hole.

Wherever a hole was needed to be made on the unibody for certain options, there was usually a small divot in the metal as a locater for a hole saw.  Sometimes the hole saw will leave an edge on the back side of the hole, which some believe could only be there by using something like a knock-out punch (or conduit punch).  Problem with that is it would be too involved of a process for the assembly line as a knock-out punch requires 2 bits, one on each side with a threaded insert in the middle.  Hole saws would be much quicker.

NOS instrument cluster for a '68.  Very nice overall, plastic chrome is one of the best I have seen.  There are some imperfections in the black painted areas as shown which could be touched up.  This one has the back side painted black, originals usually were white.  Otherwise, exactly like an assembly line piece with FoMoCo molded numbers and chrome edge around the bright lights indicator.

Tom, Thanks. Cory, Yes I have a VCM grommet. Going by the grommet I would estimate the size between 13/16" and 7/8". Another member has PMed me with a 7/8" size found on their 65. I did a 13/16" test hole on a piece of scrap and the grommet fit but it was tight. I measured the antenna hole at the body side panel and it measures .765". It would be a real struggle at best to get this grommet to go in to that hole. Any other input still welcome as I will wait a day or two before I go for it. Thank you all.
Rodney

I have a couple original grommets around, I seem to remember they were a little smaller than reproductions, but maybe it was due to rubber shrinking over time.  Will try to find them and measure.

Just measured a '66 carryover I have, ~0.768"

The holes were made with a hole saw that has a drill bit in the center.  Have found the sawn out plugs in floors of cars.  I don't think Ford ever punched out holes like this made after the unibody was assembled.

I really don't think that being the last 66 produced means it is any more valuable or has any more water cooler talk value than any production 66.

+1, it's splitting hairs with the 4 convertibles built last.

It's much more interesting/desirable that it's a 4sp sapphire blue car
