The OP may have to find some painted ones and get them chromed. If you do that , tell the chromer NOT to "over polish" them. Originals had surface "roughness"  near the flange , not mirror polish.

+1... I think the process was called 'flash chrome'?

I've had problems chroming the earlier covers as they usually add too much thickness to the oil filler neck.

Guys,
I was aware of the 289 hipo chrome valve covers.
I was referencing the 67 up units.
Did the 67 chrome covers have any print or logo's?
Merry Christmas
John

No, that started in '68, think Jeff mentioned it already in one of his replies.

Ford switched to the higher profile valve covers later in '66 production, so '67 K codes should have the later, tall style valve covers (chromed).

I'm used to seeing at least 65-66 289 engines with a smooth top oil pickup screen.  Does anyone know what the dimpled one is from or if it is simply an aftermarket piece?  Any advantage/disadvantage to using one with the dimples?

Thanks

I haven't opened the last three or four. I just read them on line.

Ahh, someone else with the same sickness as me... lol

I thought the return spring always attached to the throttle rod?

This will be great for the club.  I am also a member of BMWCCA and they do multiple car raffles each year.  It helps keep the club funded well to serve the membership.  SAAC may not have to worry so much in the future about having to share the cost of track reservations with other organizations and that sort of thing.

This is just a guess.  Is it possible that the threaded pieces were oven brazed.  The washers look welded.

I think those were spot welded.

I checked some other C4 tags and that date code is 8C11, would be followed by another number, assuming a shift code.  So, yes, March 11, 1968.

If the actual build date of the car was March 13, that would be very tight.

C 11 is the date, so March 11... assume '68.  This lines up with the April castings on the block.

I'm not sure we will ever know for sure why those numbers are stamped there.  Maybe some other cars will turn up with something similar... and doesn't have to be Shelby's... Mustangs built around the time period would probably yield more samples to compare.
