Another unknown (at least to me) factoid.

In that case, I would presume that Miles would have had the resources to engage a immigration attorney and apply for citizenship.

Question for the Does Anyone Know Department:

Did Matt Damon or Christian Bale enroll in any high performance driving school for their roles? And I don't necessarily mean being able to drive for track shots but at least having a sense of a race car and track environment. Or are they just two actors who look cool standing next to race cars and drivers?

PS
QuoteI still love the story from I believe Sebring 1966, when Miles & Gurney were dicing it up later in the contest and the pit board each lap was "E Z", old Shelby went to the pit wall and as Ken came flying by gave his boss the one finger salute !  Next lap Shelby brandished the knock-off hammer !

Interesting story. I now wonder why Miles didn't say Fark it and cross the finish line first. What was Ford going to do, fire him? (insert LMAO). Would CS have been sad and never spoken to Miles again? I would like to think HFII would have appreciated his moxie. Or not.

Besides, I presume Miles could have written his own contract with any number of teams.

Ok, you're on.

As they say in movie making, I'm willing to suspend disbelief.

P.S. I would like to know what really happened that June.

I'm sure there will be cringe worthy technical gaffes.

However, if the movie is to be successful, it has to be about characters that the audience gets involved with. And per Mr. werthie's comment, the story is more about Ken Miles then Carroll Shelby, to which I don't doubt.

So as a heads up, how would the Shelby/ Miles relationship be characterized? And what about Miles' background that would make him dramatically interesting? Or did the screenwriter/producer utilize contrived character events and situations to drive dramatic conflict?

Now I know the artist.

His World Champion 1965 poster was stunning art work when I got mine in 1965 and it remains so today.

Curious juxtaposition of the display being positioned in front of graphics illustrating some heavy-duty military hardware.

Engineer? News to me.

How about marketer? He sold his concept to Ford and he assembled a team that delivered results.

Or how about Ferrari's self-description, "an agitator of men?"

I purchased my copy in New York City in 1965.

As for reading it, yeah you should. It covers his career and I'm sure "as told to" author John Bentley executed some liberty with reality, particularly at this point in Shelby's career. But it does cover his whole racing experience up to 1965. Maybe best of all there's an index, so you can look up names, like John Wyer and Mrs. Carroll Shelby (at that time).

Very cool to find a Shelby time capsule.

Trust you will document every original detail as found. And I mean overall and detail shots of everything as found and as it comes apart. If you don't have a couple of hundred photos, you didn't shoot enough.

Interesting.

Now that I've noticed, the coupe is better looking than the fastback IMHO.

You could easily duplicate this car, but it wouldn't be a Shelby. But you would have more fun driving it and cheaper than the real thing. . .if this is what it's claimed to be.

Thanks.

And IMHO, I think the 80's Dodge Daytona remains a handsome car, particularly considering what passes for style today.

I still don't get the negativity.

CS was hired by Chrysler Corp. to develop performance models from their existing lineup. Considering what he had to work with, I don't think he did too bad. The 2.2L four cylinder was a well engineered motor. Turbocharging, common today, was leading edge then. Ultimately a 4V cylinder head was developed.  Drivetrain details included equal length half shafts to combat torque steer.

Chrysler offered Direct Connection performance parts for them and even a performance shop manual. There was aftermarket support too. Shelby Dodges competed in road rallys, showroom stock, drag racing, and ran at Bonneville.

There was even a Chrysler-Shelby Performance Center in California where they did development work. During this time CSPC engineers were evaluating a Shelby Daytona with a turbocharged, inter-cooled four-cylinder with a 4V head. As for "how much power can you put through front wheel drive. .." this test mule had an all wheel drive configuration.

Don't take my word, try to hunt up a copy of Dodge High Performance, published by Petersen Publishing. It had seriously competent performance technical information.

There was even the Shelby Dodge Automobile club for enthusiasts. I think it was located in West Redding, CT.

All that has long since evaporated from the automotive performance landscape. But I think that Shelby and all the employees and enthusiasts who invested time, effort and money into improving and competing with these cars deserve a modicum of respect.

Parts For Sale / Re: First FE HiPo heads made
February 26, 2019, 03:20:03 PM
Might it be of some value if these hi-po what ever heads were cc'd? Then the chamber volume could be checked to see if it does or doesn't match any other FE head.
