In the distant past going to NorCal we'd stop here for a good meal. Sometime around 2010 they made some kind of deal where the employees could buy in and after that everyone was a boss and nobody wanted to do the menial jobs like waiting on customers. A great example of Atlas Shrugging.......

The Lounge / $5,600 for F150 tail light
September 08, 2023, 11:08:22 PM
Modern technology. The tail lamp housing on this 2018 Ford truck leaked and corroded the electrical connectors in it. For most vehicles it is a relatively cheap fix. You replace the tail lamp, clean out the connectors and replace the bulbs. Not so simple on this truck. There is an anti-collision sensor in the housing. That sensor is on a shared bus with many other components so when the connector got corroded it bricked the truck. The truck had to be towed to the repair shop. The tail lamp is 10x the price of most at $1,200-1,400 each. The anti-collision sensor had to be replaced as well and it is on backorder. Apparently the vehicle will not drive without that anti-collision sensor so they had to pay out the rear to get one. Total cost of this repair, $5,600.

The Lounge / Farley - facing the music.......
September 07, 2023, 02:00:58 PM
With Lightning sales in the toilet and other EVs circling the drain Farley admits too much too soon. There are rumors that the big EV push is being pared back and plant shutdowns due to a glut of unsold EVs are in the works.

"You're going to see a lot more hybrid systems from us," CEO Jim Farley said Thursday after the company reported second-quarter earnings that revealed widening losses on its electric vehicles unit.

The comments run slightly counter to recent messaging from the Detroit automakers, which have touted the performance and popularity of all-electric favorites as the industry moves to meet EV targets. The hybrid hype, however, falls more closely in line with global hybrid leader Toyota
, which has faced criticism for what some saw as resistance to the EV transition.

To be clear, Ford isn't turning away from its much-touted EV push, though it said Thursday that its EV ramp-up may take longer than it had previously anticipated.

But even as it spends billions to ramp up EV production, it's planning to bring more hybrid options to market, driven by the success of its current gasoline-electric options.

"We have been surprised, frankly, at the popularity of hybrid systems for F-150," Farley said during Ford's second-quarter earnings call. More than 10% of F-150 pickup customers are opting for the hybrid model, Farley said, and that percentage has been increasing.

the IMSA Mustang Challenge Series.
Can't afford a 300 grand GTD? Toss down $145 and buy a Mustang Darkhorse R. 5 races planned for the year 2 practice sessions, 1 qualifier and 2 races per weekend - at that rate you probably won't put more than 20 hours on the car in a season.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmOEs67EPcM

The Lounge / Gas tax
July 01, 2023, 09:55:17 PM
CA added another 8% to our gas tax today. Now it's at $1.26 per gallon just for taxes and Fees.
We had the Model A out today for a Model A picnic. On the way home we stopped by a restored 1915 gas station on Route 66 in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. It struck me that the taxes and fees on a gallon of 2023 gas would almost fill the 10 gallon tank with 1915 untaxed gas.

1965 GT350/R-Model / It's here - 58 years later
June 06, 2023, 12:52:37 PM
Some of you may remember that Pete Brock originally wanted the hood scoop on the 65 GT350 to face backwards taking advantage of the high pressure air at the base of the windshield. He also envisioned some exhaust vents. His idea was nixed but now with the production of the continuation R Models Pete has been able to produce the front apron, rear window and now the hood that he originally designed. As usual he was ahead of the times Cowl Induction didn't become a thing until 3-4 years later.
