I remember being at Shelby's MoPile skunk works in Whittier. He was putting a Corvette IRS in the back of a minivan creating a 4WD.

Their destinies were intertwined in the SoCal hot rodding community. Their other long time friend helped promote them both as Shelby himself recalled at the passing of Robert E. Petersen.

"We were friends for over 50 years. I owe Pete a lot. When I introduced the Cobra, he helped promote it with articles about the car in Hot Rod and Sports Car Graphic. Every CEO in Detroit respected him. He'd tell everybody, 'You should see this new car Shelby's built. It's a winner.'"

We 70+ year old kids remember the exploits of these 3 amigos and the effect they had on our lives that still exist today.

And,I believe ,one at The Peterson Museum on the 15th. 8)

That's the annual event - I don't think they have anything planned to a 100th celebration.

Kill switches have been approved - this opens the door for the full OBD3. Big brother isn't watching he's in your back pocket.

I am surprised that the family is selling it.  But that is almost always the way when you leave the planet.  Your pride and joy gets sold.  But maybe you continue to drive the black ghost in the afterlife, as, ahem, a ghost.

Lots of times to settle an estate things need to be sold. If there isn't enough to divide it up evenly and one of the heirs doesn't have the cash to add to the pot it gets sold. Shelby's original Cobra is a prime example.

It would be neat with the car numbers to see how much price was influenced by owner/driver & race record.

This must be a door to door salesman training video - notice how fast that right foot gets in to block the door.

Someone owes me 35 minutes of my life back.
If you can't tell within a couple minutes a YouTube isn't worth watching you don't have a life.

Found this around the corner - as Ken Young would say "only in southern California" - Gulf colors with patina.
The Gulf colors have been done to death - but I like this.

I'll leave this tip for anyone considering taking a drive to the salt flats. Last summer they cancelled speed week due to rain. The entrance into Bonneville Salt Flats International Raceway was still flooded ......

They have cancelled for too much water and too little. A lot of water is needed to resettle the salt into a nice even layer. Too little and it gets wavy and even sometimes gets large cracks. It seems to be best when the water level is about a 12-18" under the surface. Traction is also a problem. When we ran the Boss 302 it would fry the tires at about 160. We added about 500 pounds of broken Hemi parts to the trunk and could get to a little over 170 before tire spin again started (175 is the golden number to get on the long track 7 miles vs 3). I was at a friends shop last week (he's in the 2 Club) and we were talking Bville tires and traction (thinking of taking my GT1 car to El Mirage). I mentioned the hemi parts and he recalled one team poured their trunk full of concrete. He had filled his stock gas tank with water. If anyone does go to the salt be sure to put sunscreen under your chin and nose. These are 2 areas that will fry quickly in the reflected sunlight.

The Lightning guy always put on a good show at the airport.  https://www.criticalpast.com/video/65675031288_Robert-Golka_Wendover-Air-Force-Base_Project-Tesla_ball-lightning_dark-hangar

Found this photo on ebay. Granatelli's Gyronaut 1300cc streamliner motorcycle with a GT350? in the background. There were probably a few Shelby's over the years that made it onto the salt. Tracing history of the cars can be hard. SCTA (So Cal Timing Assn) runs the big show (in addition to El Mirage) but the Utah group races a few times a year on the salt. The SCTA records just have the record holder for the class - The Mustang could have run in several classes depending on cuin, induction, body mods, etc. It would need a cage that is specific for the mph expected. To run you need to belong to a recognized club and the BV club. The individual clubs generally have more info on the cars their members ran - but tracking down a car to a specific club is hard without a decal on the car or someone knowing when it was run and by who.  https://scta-bni.org/home   https://bonneville200mphclub.com/#

English cottage industry at it's best. Talented craftsmen cranking out parts 1 at a time. It must have been a proud time for the shop when those cars got loaded on the trailer...... then have their fellow Brit describe them as bloody awful.

Quote from: honker on January 02, 2023, 05:23:19 PMI have these photos of what (I believe to be  6S033) in my files, not sure if they weren't on forum 1, or one of the club

Interesting he got some GT350s when he left. I wonder if it was in lieu of pay - I know CS did that later when people left they got a Series 1 since there wasn't enough $ in the kitty to buy out their contracts.

The center picture is on a Dana webpage - notes the Dana license plate frame. It says this was in the glovebox.
