my rear leafs are dead any recommendation on rear leafs would prefer to raise rear at least 1 inch from stock I know they can be rearched but am afraid it might come out too high or anybody bought new ones from eaton and hows the height
My experience with re-arching originals to the correct free-arch height, by a very old and reputable spring shop, resulted in a very bouncy ride... much like an air shock kinda ride. Replacement of one leaf, second longest one resulted in a better profile height w/o the bounce.

definitely strange to go to that level of restoration & then put wheel well moldings & rocker panels on a 67

And stripes.

I happen to prefer stripes on a white car, but when you are touting a concours restoration.   ::)

Concours...the most over/improperly-used word in the classic car marketplace

QuoteThere is no accurate reproduction

+1   The reproductions have more of a tan background where the originals had a grey background...Also the repros have a shiny appearance while the originals had a more flat appearance. The repros are very obvious.   :(

And really... how difficult would it be to make them correctly ? less shiny and the proper greyish background?

I was 22, my Dad sold Fords at a local dealer. People were trading in muscle cars so fast it was crazy. And a really nice BB car of any make might have gotten you a 600-800$ trade in value if you were lucky. They would throw them on the used car lot for a week or so and then bundle them up to wholesalers who exported many of them. This all actually started in 71' .26 gallon gas suddenly went to .42-.50 gal and people just freaked overnight.

Go to ppg dealer and get dp74lf. You didn't say what year/palnt you are working on so I can't tell you how to tint

+1  and tell them you need a small quantity of black tint.

Thanks for posting Bob!  boy that's a pretty heavy / thick looking grain in that panel. Looks like a damn dash pad . It'll be a challenge to duplicate for sure...  gonna take some trial and error.

Also the qrt extensions  have a small inside curve that is also satin black, but these seem to have a "texture" to them. Is this correct ? or should they be a smooth finish.

Bob /Ed/Jeff,

I could be wrong, but I believe the OP was more concerned with the extension black out than the tail panel.

1584 had the extensions fairly smooth, with just a hint of orange peel on the black out. I attempted to duplicate, but did not get enough orange peel out of the spray bomb I used for the black out areas. Maybe that is a good thing.  ;)

Bill

Bill, actually both... I could see the texture on the extensions, but taillight panel is a repro I believe, so I'll have to try and figure out how to achieve that look.

going to paint the taillight panel for a buddy. Is there a specific "satin black" color that should be used? Also the qrt extensions  have a small inside curve that is also satin black, but these seem to have a "texture" to them. Is this correct ? or should they be a smooth finish.
Thanks for any advice !
