1966 Shelby GT350/GT350H / 6S1380 circa 1977

digging thru old folders found some of 6S1380, prior to ownership by Jeff Burgy
I seem to recall this was following recent repaint?

yah, I was like, WHAT ?

500 HP @ 2,600 rpm and it was for a tank ! M4 Sherman running on 80 octane fuel

u_tube link

This is after old Henry refused to build the Merlin V-12 because most were going to go to Britian!
It was Edsel who behind Henry's back kept talking to the War Production Board that eventually negotiated the other defense contracts for the war; Willow Run plant - B24's & 56,870 Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Radial Aircraft Engines.

Shelby American History / GT350 prototype #3 #2

The widely distributed photo of 5R002 outside Carter shop has the unique window associated with that car.

There is another photo that appears to have the same size and font but #2, is / could it be 5R001 ?

This photo with what appears to be #2 on the fender rear just in front of the door, the drag link is hanging down, suggesting the pitman / idler are being installed.

per the latest registry, 5R103 "never raced again" following being stuffed into a sand bank 1969 12 hrs of Sebring.

found a photo from 1970 Daytona, and according to Racingsportscars.com;

#94   Cummings / Stumes   Shelby GT350   Susan T. Cummings   327 laps   DNF

I'm adding this to my race history table

GT40 - Original/Mk V / GT40 1 of 1 GT/112
March 08, 2024, 01:45:21 AM
I have not seen much discussion of GT/112, that was one of the "trial" (IMHO) designs produced as part of the "prototype" series GT/101 ~ GT/112.

finding a couple of photos from 1967 Spa 1000 Km shows the unique roadster/targa (removable roof panels) features.

Shelby American History / 1967 Paris Auto Show GT350
March 08, 2024, 01:29:24 AM
My search (in this Forum) did not find any prior discussion of this event,  should have checked Coralsnake.com
records show the 1967 Paris Auto Show was Oct 7th, 1967, so having a 1968 model GT350 would not be surprising?

Is there any records suggesting the Sn # ?  coralsnake.com = 8T02J110578-00339
I see what looks like a side marker lamp in the fender, Euro requirement?

The Lounge / Lessons learned ( or not ) Ford Indy 256 CID

Indy Speedway Museum restoration of Dan Gurney's Lotus 29/1 1963
This segment shows reassembly wok on the 1963 pushrod 256 CID "Indy" engine.....

seems there was alot of unique design features, such as the better head fastener design,
that had they incorporated into the 289/302 FSB racing engine development,
they may have not had the GT40 Mk-I engine failures in 1964, 1965 that weren't resolved until JWA received the abandoned FoMoCo
small block patterns and adapted the Gurney-Weslake heads to produce the 1968/1969 JWA/Gulf successes?

What would have been the implications if they further developed into the Trans-Am program instead of messing around with the TP302 ??
It seems Hi RPM performance works for NASCAR,    mid-range torque works best for powering out of corners in Trans-Am and Chevy seems to have had the head start with SBC development

GT40 - Original/Mk V / P1032 restoration video
November 22, 2023, 05:19:57 PM
I'm surprised this has not been posted here previously.  perhaps it was on Forum v1.0?

https://youtu.be/EOG5ngpVTT4?si=uT2hPlLU0_4x1s1n

Was at Indianapolis Raceway Museum as P1046 clone "as received from Ford in 1968"

interesting footage of the work to restore, including some unique Mk-II features.

I very much liked the part where they took Mose Nowland around Indy in the restored car!!

I have not previously seen any reference to the Philco Division involvement in the GT350 development.

Philco's work with SAI in sorting out the GT-40 is well documented and so it comes as no surprise I guess they would have also been involved with the "Shelby Modified Mustang"

It seems there continues to be small pieces of historical documents / personal accounts that surface and add to the body of knowledge regarding the vehicles / programs that involved Shelby American.

not a bad investment $5,700 in 1974, appears to be fairly original late production leaf spring car

J B Donaldson still owns, although there seems to be a few factual errors in the narrative,
still interesting to hear from a long term owner.

Ford GT / NGFGT 2016~2019 Race Results
March 31, 2023, 03:39:08 PM
I came across this data thought it should be compiled and archived.
Interesting chassis numbers similar to the prototype 1964 GT-40's that started the history!

A total of 8 racing GT chassis were built.

FP-GT01 : test and spare chassis in WEC for 2016 – 2017.
FP-GT02 : test and spare chassis in IMSA for 2016 – 2017, then car n°67 in IMSA and n°69 for Le Mans in 2018 – 2019.
FP-GT03 : car n°66 in IMSA and n°68 for Le Mans in 2016. Won the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans in the LM GTE-Pro category and was then sent to the Henry Ford    Museum in Dearborn (Michigan) at the end of the IMSA season.
FP-GT04 : car n°67 in IMSA and n°69 for Le Mans in 2016 – 2017. Then became the test and rescue car in IMSA in 2018 before being sold to Ben Keating for    the 24 hours of Le Mans 2019 in LM GTE-Am class.
FP-GT05: car n°67 for all seasons in WEC.
FP-GT06 : car n°66 in WEC for 2016 – 2017, then test and rescue car in WEC for 2018 – 2019.
FP-GT07 : new chassis built in 2017, car n°66 in IMSA and n°68 for Le Mans 68 in 2017 – 2018 – 2019.
2017 24hrs Daytona winner n°66, Dirk Mueller, Joey Hand and Sébastien Bourdais
FP-GT08 : new chassis built in 2018, car n°66 in WEC for 2018 – 2019.

Each of the two teams had two racing cars, plus a third to carry out tests and Use it as a replacement for one of the two racing cars entered, in the  event of excessive damage, for example.
After two seasons, the spare cars replaced one of the two racing cars because they were less worn and with a lower mileage.

GT40 - Original/Mk V / Aluminum Honeycomb
March 17, 2023, 10:01:10 AM
During a discussion with a material engineer at work,
(we're a class 6~8 truck axle manufacturer formerly Rockwell, so "car" stuff doesn't often surface !)

he pulled out of a drawer a sample block of "laminated aluminum" panel,
as I've never handled a sample of the material, took photos and thought I'd share.

some other "in period" race coverage has poor dubbed in engine audio, this tape includes what sounds to me as authentic !
enjoyed the sound of the 7 liter engines as they accelerate out of the corners, the Chaparral has a distinctly different exhaust note from the Ford.

ran across a couple photos from a Motor City Region meeting circa 1976 or 1977 at Dearborn library,
an unusual finish cobra with a tortured history !

I've never seen this footage before, lots of historical graphic images to examine!

the video title is misleading, it's 1st part is the only segment from Abby panels,
there is quite a bit from FAV build, likely GT/101 ~ GT/103
then moves onto Nürburgring, Le Mans and ends with quite a bit of footage of burned out GT/104,

You can catch a glimpse of CSX2287, John Wyer, Eric Broadley, Phil Hill, Lunn, McLaren, Ginther.
