I think you are misguided in thinking product decisions are driven by consumer desire or historical trends!

Now corporate leadership, board of directors and Wall Street are all woke and driven by progressive ideology.

I recently had to listen to a half hour sermon on corporate vision by a CEO of a very well known global corporation in the transportation industry and it was more like a "tent revival meeting" than a corporate presentation of it's future plans.

"It is the existential crisis of our generation to make hard commitments to solving the climate crisis before we permanently destroy the planet!"

CEO of Blackrock investments, Fink, " Access to the financial market is a privilege not a right!".

If a corporation doesn't have a diversity exec at VP level or higher, or they don't have a "conforming EV, Green, or environmental commitment" then they may not be given access to the financial market, = they will be financially choked off and die.

"You MUST conform to the progressive agenda or die" is what now drives the global corporate world.

It is sad but it is increasingly apparent that is the new reality!

So it's no surprise to see what products are being shipped to the dealers. Your opinion doesn't matter !

The picture is 5R002 during testing.

Some tidbits: After Miles was killed CS tapped his buddy Jerry Titus to drive the GT350. Most of his races and wins were in 001 but 002 was also entered in some races and served as a backup car.

You may want to revise your timeline,  Miles spent most of his time following the Green Valley (FEB 65 victory in 5R002) working on the GT40 project, and that's why Carroll brought Titus in to drive the Hi Performance sponsored competition GT350 (either 5R002 or 5R001),
Ken perished in Aug 1966 a year and 1/2 later, Titus had already moved into other brands following getting beaten at Green Valley 1966.

Nice. Last weekend at the Motor Muster at Greenfield Village in Dearborn we had 4. A 65 original paint, interior and engine car (239). A green/white stripes 66 from Ohio. A red KR FB that belongs to a friend and my 70 GT350 vert. Ken(KR) and I are usually there every year and last year a nightmist blue 67 GT500 owned by an old friend was there but didn't show up this year. We usually don't get a lot of Shelbys at that show but still a lot of cool and rare cars show up and the Village usually has some rare museum cars on display.

I was also there, didn't get a photo of #239.
66 GT350 owner listed as Thomas Brumley, 6S1727

Testing at Daytona, '65.
I believe this could be GT/106 ? ? From the Ronnie Spain book, 106 was tested at Daytona in August & October '65.
Also from the 4th edition of the Cobra/GT40 registry similar info.
This is the first picture I have seen from these tests, I wonder if there are others ?

Mike

Interesting photo documenting a snapshot in time!
observations:
* Le Mans front wheel opening aero fin present
- Le Mans front lower aero dam / deflectors - deleted
+ Revised radiator outlet opening?  unclear
+ added/revised NACA ducts in nose
+ instrumented LH rear wheel
+ 66 MK-II style rear upper scoops added
+ Revised rear body contour / wheel opening ?  I'll have to review 65 Le Mans photos

this is a "missing link" development stage between the 65 "MK-I" 427 prototype proof of concept stage to the 66 standardized MK-II cars (i.e. P1011, P1012, P1015, P1016, P1031, P1032, P1046, P1047, XGT-1, 2 3)

The Lounge / Surprising source of 9" gearsets
May 22, 2022, 07:51:36 PM
While on a work assignment at one of our plants in NC I was surprised to find a source of Ford 9" gearsets.

Our company that was formerly Rockwell has 70+% of the class 7, 8 HD truck axle market.
These are 19k up thru 58k tandem axle products that are under most HD truck OEM's.

Also many transit, coach, fire trucks and my area of responsibility Defense use many of our axle, brake, driveline and related components.

I was working along side one of our "Gear Technology" design engineers and got talking about cars and I mentioned my history with Mustangs and Shelby American.

He responded that his 1st projects a couple of years ago was setting up production at this NC plant of "Mortorsport" gearset production, specifically Ford 9". So he took me over to the area where the gearset is cut and then lapped to establish the contact pattern.
So you must understand these 9" gearsets look like toy parts next to the truck 16, 17 & 18" ring gears also going along on the conveyor.
It turns out the primary customers for the gearsets are Strange and Moser, needless to say I was quite surprised!

you just never know what turns up !

I would assume it's been asked, does Chuck Cantwell have input to the question?

planning the 66 model year would have considered the "seed 250 carryover chassis" and the planned release of the A/T "true" 66 chassis, so using the early form with those considerations would be logical?

the 66 planning meeting notes have any clues?

The car #169 is 5S445. I met the owner that raced it back in the 1970's at a vintage weekend at Waterford Hills July 2018.
Another great, very gracious owner willing to share his & car's history and experiences.
He drove the car in the "parade" pre-race laps but did not compete.

This is a well prepared, well raced, preserved, non-restored, car that captures the intended use - wear & patina of an independent competition GT350.

IMHO it doesn't get any better than this example !
