interesting the 64 photos show Carroll & Holbert, Holbert driving a King Cobra, my 97 registry doesn't list a King Cobra at the event?
not sure which chassis it would be.

6R07mi was looking to id a '65 GT350 in this thread "Trying to ID 65 GT350 CA black plate NJR 785" didn't want to side track that thread, looking through my files I came across this one, looks to be a '65,  10spokes,   flares front & rear,   maybe R model front valance ? pic is dated '74. looking at the vegetation, maybe SW,  Any ideas ?

Mike

Mike,
Just looking at this photo, is that a rocker molding? If it is then would that suggest this may be a "shelby-ized" regular mustang?
it appears to have later body colored "racing mirrors" aka 69 / 70, so beside the non-original GT350 stripe, 66 side scoops on a 65 body, I don't see any other SAI GT350 features.

not conclusive but more likely not an authentic GT350??

thanks

I've discussed with registrar and haven't been able to ID.

This 65 came out of Sacramento and processed thru The T-Bird Parts Store, Livonia MI back in the late 70's,
this is stretching my aging memory !!

This street car has what appears to be re-worked rear wheel lips
and the dash has appearance it may not have a pad and has a competition cluster?

If anyone out in our community has any clues it would be of interest to me and the registrar.

Thank you

Candlestick.  Phil Hill drove the 427 in A-Production and led the race until the car broke.  He was hounded by the winning 904 Porsche driven by Don Wester.  SAI had two GT350's entered in B-Production, driven by Leslie and ? (Titus).  One of the 350's won the class.  S&C and Hayward were the two biggest Shelby dealers in NorCal.  Tragic weekend as two drivers perished.

would this would be CSX3002 by my notes.

Ford's suppliers also had their engineers working overtime to get it done.

https://www.holley.com/blog/post/ford_ferrari_and_the_holley_carburetor_that_helped_make_racing_history/

I see the Holley page included the account & photo of the Mose Knowland French flag from Le Mans 66
I had previously read the account and thought it was a kool story and affirmation for Mose!

Mose Nowland (center) started his career at Ford in 1955, and at 86 years old, still gushes about his time on the Ford GT program.
He's flanked by modern Ford GT racing drivers Ryan Briscoe (left) and Joey Hand (right).
They're holding a French flag that Nowland "borrowed" trackside at Le Mans after Ford's win in 1966.
The Australian and American drivers took the flag along with them back to France in 2016 as a good luck charm.
It worked. The No. 68 Ford GT driven by Hand and Dirk Müller came home first in the GTLM class...beating Ferrari, again.

Quote from: shelbydoug on April 07, 2022, 11:59:21 AMdid Ford "borrow" the concept or did GM just "slip it to Ford?"
Detroit spying an industry of its own. My uncle was a casting engineer and ended up running Ford's Cleveland plant. He got the maximum award Ford would pay for cost saving suggestions. He said don't paint under the vinyl tops. He got the idea from visiting a friend from his student days at GM Institute and seeing cars without top paint getting vinyl tops.
They even robbed each others schools. My uncle went to GMI and ended up at Ford. My dad went to Henry Ford Trade school and ended up a tooling designer at GMs Saginaw Steering Gear.

Well there's 2 big personalities that crossed-over,  Brock & Cantwell both switched from GM to SAI, all the better for the subject of our shared interests!

Car bump steers a bit don't it? He's rough on the clutch, if you shift it down like that to slow it, you will wear the clutch lining like brakes.

Who's driving it? Sounds like a small block not a 427?

"Former Goodwood modern lap record holder Andrew Smith pedals a mighty Ford #GT40 MkI through the French countryside
on the La Gabelle special stage at Peter Auto's Tour Auto Optic 2000"

i assume he's used to driving 10/10ths if he's the lap record holder at Goodwood, where they slide the american v8's around (i.e. Cobra's & GT40's)

I can neither confirm or deny the following actually happened to someone known to my brother :)

If you are familiar with Dearborn MI then this account setting will be known.

Driving a 1970 Mustang, 351C 4v, shaker hood scoop, C/R 4 speed, 4:11, competition suspension, Koni all around, Crane Fireball cam with tuned B351 intake and Autolite 4350, down Ford road toward Telegraph Rd, (westside street racing venue), good friend alongside on Honda 750 wants to "run", so he pulls a wheelie while crossing Outer Drive, and Dearborn's finest (sitting in a parking lot, blacked out) observes this display of driving technique go by,...

turning north on Telegraph, the thought of attempting to evade is quickly discarded when the blue & red lights appear coming around the corner and picking up speed behind,

both the car and Honda pulling over to the shoulder are met with the flashing lights,  then the driver of the Honda decides to bail on his friend in the Mustang, and screams off with lights off......

as the Dearborn B&W pulls around the Mustang to begin the pursuit of the Honda, the officer yells out the window to the Mustang driver,
"you're lucky tonight because of your stupid friend, you better just go home, if I see you back out here pulling that kind of stunt, you'll spend the night in the station"!

Friend on Honda drove back home in Livonia via side streets without lights on to prevent being observed by law enforcement!

went back the next night to cruise, but without friend & Honda.
never got ticketed on Telegraph Rd in THAT mustang !

Wouldn't this "axle" code be used similar to the "engine" code?
So the assembly operator would be using the build sheet that calls out the axle or engine code that is used to install the proper component??

similar process for both??

I found a video of a 1966 GT350 at Le Mans in 1966. It doesn't have the stripes and arrived before June 1966. I don't know its SFM.
https://www.ina.fr/ina-eclaire-actu/video/rxf03005382/le-mans-le-tour-du-circuit-avec-guy-ligier?fbclid=IwAR1XhTGdmmkqdvl_ENjUp8XTjEGozvu3hytGd5_um_N8cjz50t5XJuI0DBU

All,  I asked my Canadian French translator here at work to provide a brief summary of audio.
here's what he sent:

"The ford issue is resolved.     (XGT-2 collision during practice with P1029, #63 shown in video beginning ??)
The Shelby teams cars will be on the starting grid tomorrow.
The accident during practice caused serious damage but the pilot is ok. A good advised is to be safe on the road of la Sarthe.

The discussion in the car is with Guy Ligier at the wheel evoking the particularities of the Le Mans circuit.
how to race on this track. What gears to be in at different place on the track, speeds they are going, when to brake before the apex and where to be on the track, staying in the middle of the track where the bump is because the car will lift off."

The second owner apparently was Jim Harrell. I remember seeing it in his shop 1969(?)
when he was racing his "69 Mustang in A Sedan and selected Trans Am races.
Jim is still building "special" cars in the Carolinas. He may be a good resource for answering
questions from that era. I seem to remember that some of the photos in the Boss 302
Chassis Manual were of his '69 build.

Tom,
I don't recall where I found this or the caption info, it's noted as 70 Daytona Jim Harrell.
