Truly, very young kids are the best!  I've been to several car shows where a youngster under the age of 10 is completely awe struck.  Nothing gives me more pleasure than to offer them the chance to sit in the driver's seat.

What's really fun is watching their parent's face - the parents either look thrilled, or they look EXTREMELY nervous.  I usually assure the parents by saying "There's nothing in there they can break!"

Good times!  ;D

Amazing pics!  Thanks to all for sharing...simply incredible.

And, I have to say: the quality of the pictures is amazing.  Very good clarity.  Well done!

Another photo....

How awesome is this picture?!?!  Man, that 67 REALLY looks tough with it's complete setup.  I can only imagine what that thing would sound and drive like.  Its kind of a shame that we've seemingly moved so far from day 2 setups now a days.  If I saw a 67 like this, I would buy it and run it just as is.  I truly appreciate the day 1 look...and, there's a sinister side of me that longs for the days that this pictures represents.

I would call this "Day 2 Period Correct".  Hey Jim C., can we add another category for SAAC Judging?  I have an idea... ;D

Thanks for sharing!!!

Never underestimate the influence you can have on introducing the younger generation to classic cars.

Our next door neighbors have a son who is 12, and he reminds me a lot of myself at that age.  He seems to have a passion for anything with an engine.  He just got an electric powered mini bike for Christmas and loves driving it up and down our street with an ear to ear smile on his face.

The other day, his Dad came by and asked if I would be open to having his son come by to see my cars sometime. Apparently, this young man has noticed many a day/night where I've been working on a car in the garage with the door open, and he wants to come by and see what I'm doing...sound familiar?  This is similar to many, many stories that I've heard of people finding initial interest back in the 60s / 70s.

I know I share in the concern that the passion for these amazing cars will die with current ownership.  However, I believe that the younger generation can become just as passionate about our cars as ourselves - we just need to expose them to it whenever possible.  I also believe that part of the reason people become interested in these cars is because they can see, touch, smell...even ride in them.  I know that my passion started the day I first saw a Shelby in person, as I'm sure was the case for many of us.

Please, let that exhaust sing!  And, please share your amazing cars with others!

Just my 2 cents  :D

Thanks Pete for all you do for our hobby!  You've been invaluable for people (like myself) who are relatively new and lack the knowledge of what was back in the day.

The Lounge / DenBeste - Liquidating?
February 16, 2018, 05:23:34 PM
I've seen quite a few classic Shelby's for sale that look to be from DenBeste's personal collection...and now this:.

Is DenBeste liquidating everything?

For me, it is the '67 I have. Only thing I would change if I could would be a Parchment interior. I didn't have to have a Big Block, but it did have to be Nightmist, Inboards and a 4-speed.

I also love '66/'65s and '70/'69s.

Only Mustang I would take over a Shelby is a '69 Boss 429. Preferably Burgundy or Black Jade.

Amen all the way around!  The 67 I have has lit a fire in me that won't go out.  I love the the styling, handling, astetics...I love it all!

That said, I do have an affinity for 65-68 Shelbys, specially, 65s (especially the R models), 66 carryovers, 67 small blocks, and 68 KRs...preferably fastbacks.

And, just like 2112, the only Mustang I would ever take over a Shelby is a 69 Boss 429.  My colors would be Raven Black, Royal Maroon, Candyapple Red or Wimbledon White.  Basically, all but Black Jade.  ;D

The Lounge / Barn Find???
February 15, 2018, 02:31:39 PM
So, much like anyone else, I love a good barn find story.

But, is a 2009 Z06 Corvette really a "barn find"?!?  Dust and "original parts" don't (for me) make a barn find.

http://www.foxnews.com/auto/2018/02/15/barn-find-condition-2009-chevrolet-corvette-z06-found-in-storage-unit-up-for-auction.html

Really?  Original parts on a 2009 car...amazing.   ::)

There is at least one other one-owner '67 known to many, also some lower mileage '67's too.

Great history on Hunt's car!

Very true.  I met a fellow at SAAC 43 that had owned his white 67 Shelby GT500 (I believe it was a big block, but can't remember for sure) since new.  He gave me his card, but I can't find it.   :-[

Ford GT / Re: Ford vs John Cena - Ford GT
February 14, 2018, 11:38:22 PM
Truly, it'll be interesting to see how this plays out.  I'm certain that Ford is wanting to make an example of John Cena and what NOT to do with you allocation.

I've heard rumors from people in the know, and John more than doubled his money by flipping the car.   8)

1965 GT350/R-Model / Re: 1965 GT350... 36 more?

And, although it's being fashioned by some of the original Venice crew, $250K is still a LOT of scratch.  These have been advertised for a while, and it looks like it's been slow going, even with a limited production.

Just for fun, I called one of the numbers to find out more information on the cars (this was before the holidays)...and Jim Marietta answered the phone!  It was his cell number!  I have to say that I was a little bit star-struck.  However, Jim and I talked for the better part of 40 minutes about the cars, the process of obtaining one, etc.

If I had $250K sitting around with no where better to go, I would be all in!

Ford GT / Ford vs John Cena - Ford GT
February 14, 2018, 05:35:53 PM
The news first broke on the old site that Ford was suing John Cena for flipping his new Ford GT after purchasing it and, apparently, disregarding Ford's 24 month "no resale" clause.

Well, apparently Mr. Cena is firing back...sort of...
