Hi all,

I have been communicating with Marti Auto Works on their short upper radiator hose with staples for 289.  Turns out their supplier is making most of the upper radiator hoses on the short end of the tolerance, but a few are getting through on the long end.  Laying a string along the hose, nominal would appear to be very near 13 inches.  Doing the same approach, the short hose is 12.5 inches and the long is 13.5 inches.   See image below.  It appears the tolerance on the drawing is +/- .50 inches.  I am betting the supplier is saving a little money, by reducing material cost and cutting to the short end of the tolerance.  Marti should tighten up the drawing requirements or have them all cut long.  If you order a new hose from Marti, put in a note on your order that you want them to cherry pick a long hose.  Hope this helps.

Best of luck

Hi all,

Does anyone know what's up with the special issue "Hertz White House Press" garment bag.  I am familiar with the non-White House versions.  They came in two lengths.  This one looks like the short version.  There is also a long version.  Why did Hertz have these "White House Press" versions created?  Maybe they thought it was good publicity and advertising?

The one on auction is pretty spendy.  The seller is on his second round if I counted right.  No takers.

Thanks

Cory

Wanted to Buy / WTB copies of R-Model Scoop Issues 1-8
December 21, 2020, 03:34:27 AM
Hi all,

Does any one have copies of the R-Model Scoop they are willing to share?  I was trading emails with Howard and he no longer has any copies that copies can be made from.  He says "... the quality and half-live of the Scoops has faded away..."  The paper they were printed on was not the best.  I have access to issues 1, 2, 3, 5 and 7.  So I would only need copies of 4, 6 and 8.  I enjoy reading about the R-models.  I can imagine most of the info on the cars are now in the registries, but I'd still like to see if I can find some Scoops.

Thanks

Hi All,

Are these quarter window someones home made tinted windows?  Or was there a tinted quarter window option available?  I don't believe so, but thought I'd better ask.  The seller wants some crazy money.

Appeals / Francis Ford Dealership image from 1965
December 03, 2020, 05:35:06 PM
Hi all,

Please advise a source of a high resolution image of Francis Ford dealership image from 1965. There is a seller on a popular auction site that has a postcard side image but is cropped.  Attached is the full image. Does anyone know where I can buy a copy?  Also was this a postcard or just a promotional photo?  This is an awesome image.

Thank you

Hi all,

Can someone tell me how to identify the correct floor mounted shifter control assembly for 1968 390 and 428?  The Ford MPC shows part number C8ZZ-7400-C after 1-2-68.  The MPC shows C7ZZ-7400-C prior to 1-2-68.   Images highlighting the correct shifter would be fantastic.  Please help me understand the differences between the two part numbers.

Thank you

Hi all,

In the forum 1.0, I had put together a series of images to show the differences between the two versions of the 1966 aluminum 10 spokes.  There might be other very subtitle differences with each version, but primarily two versions.  The attached image shows the set of wheels for sale with high lights on the differences.  It was probably pretty common when these wheels became available, that the early sets had a mixed batch of wheel versions.  Depending how wheel sets were put together, it is also possible a late car could have gotten a mixed set.  It is more common to see the later version as a complete matched set.

Summary of primary key feature differences:

Version 1 - early or first casting.  This version is slightly wider that the second version.  The spokes do not run all the way to the edge of the rim, but fall short by about half inch.  The molding spruces are paired and close together.  This wheel also took more materiel to produce.

Version 2 - later or second casting (Most common version.)  This version, the spokes run to the edge of the rim and the casting spruces are farther apart when compared to the version 1 wheel.  I am betting this change was made to improve the producibility of the wheels and reduce the rejection rate and thus reduce cost.  Version 2 also used less materiel, reducing material cost.  I actually talked to Phil Remington about this and he had no memory of the tooling change or that there was a difference.  I expect the supplier made the change without notifying SAI.  They made the change to improve their bottom line.

This set is pretty nice, but spendy.  It is a mixed set with 2 early and 3 late.  As of this post, the seller has not disclosed the mixed set.  All the closeup single wheel images are of the earlier wheel. The potential buyer needs to be aware of this.  It is not bad, but something to be aware.

Take care

Cory

Hi all,

A few years ago I picked up a 1965 Hertz Worldwide Directory with the addresses of all their rental sites in 1965.  Below are some images of the directory and a few locations with postcard images of the original sites.  I have not checked google street view for the current addresses, if anyone wants to check them out and post the current street views.  If you have a site you would like the address to, post the city and state and I will post the page with those addresses.  Then I would like you to research that address and post images of the site if they are interesting.

Enjoy

Hi all,

Does anyone recognize this ad and where it was ran back in the day?  I have the piece, but neither side ID's the publication nor a date.  It also is not a common ad.  Very cool.

I expect it was a one time deal, like the Montgomery Ward's Quarterly magazine ad with the same image used in the 65 GT350 postcard.  A one time deal.

Thanks

1966 Shelby GT350/GT350H / Hertz Speedmeter lock
October 11, 2020, 10:54:36 PM
Not necessarily memorability, but definitely a 1966 Hertz GT350H artifact.  The attached images shows the speedometer cable locks to keep the GT350H renter mostly honest.  The lock with large hole was on the back of the speedometer in the cluster, capturing the large nut inside, preventing the speedometer cable from being disengaged from the speedometer.  The other was to prevent the removal of the small bolt holding the speedometer cable to the transmission.  When the rental cars left Hertz, these were suppose to be removed, but not all were removed.

I have had these for years.  Purchased off a popular auction site.   IIRC, the seller tells me he and a buddy parted out a GT350H many years ago, rust bucket, and he kept these locks, stored away in the sock draw in his bed room.  Years later he found, auction off and sold to me.  They are the second set I have ever seen.

It will take some pretty rare piece(s) to make this trade.

Enjoy

Wanted to Buy / WTB 1968 Mustang AM Radio 8TPZ
October 10, 2020, 11:34:06 PM
Hi all,

Does anyone have a really nice 1968 Mustang AM radio they are willing to let go?  It should be part number 8TPZ, nice face and buttons (see image attached) , no cut wires, inspection sticker still attached on top, working great?

I have found some on auction, but they are not as nice as I'd like.  There were some sold radios that were very nice.

Thanks

Can anybody figure out what this guy is selling, besides a bunch of BS?  What ever it is, he has three of them for $800 each and the shipping is only $8.25.

Hi guys,

I occasionally watch American Pickers and always wonder what they pass on or what is in the back ground that might perk our interests.  Well, in season 20, episodic 1, there was a quick shot of some derelict vehicles and this 68 Cougar flashed on the screen for just a second or two.  If you blinked or looked away you would have missed.  I was able to down load the episode and capture the attached image.  Looks like the car is in Nebraska and might have seen a few stop light races.

Anybody else have any American Picker finds to share?

Hi all,

You should all be aware of the Chrysler Magnum 500 with the marking 14X 6 JK 795C with the near 4 inch back spacing.  Well, Motor Wheels sales department did very well back in the day.  GM also has a chrome Magnum 500 with the same hoop and markings.  So don't be confused if you come across one of these wheels.  The bolt pattern will not fit on your GT350.  Below is the link to the auction, plus some images for the record.  Hope this helps anyone looking for these wheels.

Remember, the 66 GT350H chrome Magnum 500 wheel has to have a very near 3.375 back spacing, markings 14 X 6 JK, 795C and Ford bolt pattern to be correct.

Take care

Hi all,

There is a Craigslist want ad that has, what appears to be, derelict SAI cars, plus others.  I do not recognize any of the imgaes.  Have you seen these images before and know the cars?

Hi all,

Does any one have a photograph of a blue 66 GT350 that was advertised for sale on the 1985 Mid America Meet?  The car was parked on an upper lever on Sunday.  I can't find my photo and would like to have a copy.

Thanks

Up For Auction / 6S1014 for sale for $150K
May 20, 2020, 02:41:05 AM
Hi all,

Looking for a fixer upper, red Hertz car, automatic, 6S1014?  This showed up recently on Classic Autotrader.  Price is a little high at $150K.  There is a member on the forum that has looked at the car.  If he chimes in, he might be able to give you more info.  Anybody know about this car?  It still has the MICO master cylinder.

Take care
