Hi All,

Kind of expensive, not mine.  Does any know any facts or history behind these light weight jackets?

Thanks

Cory

SAAC Forum Discussion Area / Re: Correct carburetor
March 14, 2024, 09:03:10 PM
Hi Kevin,

Glad to help.  Attached are images of the two venturies from a C6ZF-F carb.  The "BA", secondary, is more common and can be found on other applications. There are three on a popular auction site right now, one even NOS.  The tough one is the "M" or "MA", primary.  It appears to be unique to the HiPo carbs.

According to Tony Gregory from "The 289 High Performance Mustang" third addition, the jets are sized as:

C6ZF-F  50F primary, 69F secondary
C6ZF-C  52F primary, 68F secondary

I should also note, that the 4100 carburetor does not actual fit on the COBRA intake by itself.  There would be massive vacuum leaks without some other provisions.  There is a quarter inch spacer used to adapt the carb to intake.  This can be seen in my earlier posted image.

Take care

Hi Delli,

Welcome to the SAAC Forum.  Hopefully there will be lots for you to learn and share.  The correct carburetor is the C6ZF-9510-F Autolite 4100 with integral manual choke stop.  The driver side forward ear will be stamped 6Z F.  As you said, are very hard to find these days.  The manual tran carb is C6ZF-C, which are easier to find.  The functional difference is the size of the jets and venturies.

Please share an image of your car.  We would love to see.

Best of luck

Hi all,

Up for auction is a COBRA Accelerometer.  Not mine.  Kind of high on asking price.  The seller posted a video showing the smooth action of the needle going from zero to 1.0 g.

Best of luck

Up For Auction / Re: Last first gen GT350 up for auction
February 27, 2024, 05:35:46 PM
For the record when the eBay auction link expires.

Cory

Auction Description:

This 1966 Shelby GT-350 Fastback is the "LAST" Production 1st Generation Body Style "BUILT, SOLD and SHIPPED" by Shelby American, Inc.This car was purchased 12 years ago from the 2nd owner. It sat in his garage un-driven since the early 80's. It has remained in the same "As Found" condition until the time of this listing in which exterior and interior have been carefully cleaned with soap and water to remove dust and dirt. The original exterior color from new is Sapphire Blue with Stripe delete. The 2nd owner painted it white. Exterior pictures show the overall rust free panels and lower rockers. Body is very solid with no rust through. Undercarriage pictures show some surface rust.

It retains the original factory installed Drivetrain including 289cu HiPo V8, 4 Spd  Manual Transmission and Rear Axle. The black Vinyl Interior is original and in very good condition with no signs of wear. No attempt has been made to get the motor running to prevent damage to original drivetrain. However, a video showing the crank pulley turning easily by hand proves that motor is not locked.

All numbers have been verified by the Shelby Registry including the original Ford Vin # matching to this assigned Shelby Vin #. All Shelby Documents and copy of 2nd owner Title are included with the sale.

This Shelby was recently listed on another online auction in which reserve was not met. It was presented in its "AS FOUND" condition including all the dust and dirt. It did not meet the target reserve price set.

My concept on this sale is simple, the buyer gets to step into my shoes and buy what I found 12 years ago, the way I found it. The buyer gets to choose what they do to it, how they do it and where they have it done. The only difference with this listing and the previous listing is it's cleaned up so that all the concerns over rust and corrosion can be put to rest.

Original cable threads is 14 TPI, top image, as identified in the MPC. The repop, as measured be Dave, is near 20 TPI, lower image .  The finer thread pitch is harder to see in this clearer image.

When the radiators were first put together, they all likely had the baffle,  but during rebuild many are left out.  They are not needed to be fully functional.  Finding an original baffle will be very tough.

Hi Todd,

Your car 6S1227 is likely a San Jose February 1966 build, so  1-66 rad would be nice, but a 12-65 or 11-65 would also work nicely.  If all you need is to replace the top, watch for a Mustang six cylinder radiator with a date code that works for you.  This will be the most economic choice. These can be found at local swap meets or your favorite auction site.  It is the same top as the V8 radiator.  Then have the AMK radiator tag C4ZE-M2 soldered on to complete the transformation.  Patients will also be a factor.

Last, it needs to look identical to the top tank shown below with the W-MO and your favorite date code.

Best of luck

Cory

P.S.  Don't take it apart yourself unless your are a professional.  I ruined the one in the attached image by doing my self.  I split an edge.

Up For Auction / COBRA shift knob - What is it?
February 21, 2024, 11:26:07 PM
What is this?  Truck COBRA shift knob?  Looks old.  The basic knob is exactly like the shift knob in my 66 Ford Truck F100 4X4.  The knob has a broad applications across the Ford line.   The early COBRA insert is formed convex to fit into a machined recess on the shift knob.  Has anyone seen this shift knob in a Ford catalog?  I expect it is aftermarket.  Looks commercially made.  It will not fit on a Mustang shifter.  The thread pitch is too small.  They must not have sold well.  I have never seen one before.

Thanks

Cory

Wow Dave, you are the man.  That is completely different.  There should be no confusion there if one finds a HiPo choke cable at a swap meet and has this bracket.  I was under the impression the difference was very subtle.  This is not.

Thank you

Keep in mind that there were a few Ford vehicles of the period that used choke cables with the same knob. Only the brackets and length of the cable differed based on vehicle model.

Hi NC TRACKRAT,

You are correct.  The Mustang cable length is 57.6 inches (MPC shows 57.62 in).  The Fairlane is shorter at 38.6 inches for 1964 and 58 inches for 1965 according to Tony Gregory in "The 289 High Performance Mustang".  He does mention the brackets are slightly difference but gives no details as to the differences.  If anyone can share the differences in the brackets, that would be great.  This is needed to distinguish the 1965 Fairlane cable from the Mustang cable.  The difference of 0.38 inches is marginal at best to determine the application.

The MPC shows two part numbers for the Mustang and Fairlane cables and brackets.  Anyone with a Fairlane bracket?

Thanks

Here is side-by-side of the cable bezel.  I'll see if Brian can get me a clear image of the bezel, but you can see the differences that Bob describes.

Hi Bob, good eye on the threads.  Brian will get me a clearer image of repop threads tomorrow night, but this is what I have now.  Even with bad image you can see difference.  Nice

Hi Bob, can you post an image so we can see the differences?
