I have a friend who's not an internet guy who had a set of 10 spokes bead blasted and is trying to figure out the best way to restore the original look. Are there any shops who restore them who I could refer him to?  Also, I think he'd rather do it himself and used to own a body shop and is pretty handy- is there an efficient process to get the polish look back to the wheels and a correct paint color he can use. He believes them to be correct 68's.  I'll pass along any of your recommendations. Thanks.

I am piecing together a non shelby 1968 J-code GT fastback. I was going to start reinstalling the underdash wiring (that I got in boxes) and came across this bracket.  Can anyone tell me where and how this mounts (pictures?) and what the assembly is used for?  Maybe that thick green wiring is for the console?  The wiring diagram booklet I have shows wires but not where things are attached or routed and aren't super clear. Thanks very much for your help.

I was going to put the doors on a 66 mustang I have and when I looked at my bin of mounting plates that sit in the pillar where you bolt the hinges through I remembered there were two different plates used but don't know for what timelines. Essentially there are thinner door mount plates that use the three smaller 3/8 bolt holes and there are thicker plates with bigger bolt holes.  Is this a early versus late 64.5-66 thing?

SAAC Forum Discussion Area / Axle ID help needed
January 20, 2022, 10:36:25 AM
Hello Everyone,
A few years back I bought a pair of 31 spline for 9" axles so I could use them in a 70Boss I had but ended up finding the originals buried in my garage. Every once in awhile I think about using them in a 67/68 9" housing I have and using it in a regular GT mustang.  The question I have is are the 31 spline axles different between 67 and 70 shelbys and mustangs that came with 9' and 31 spline from the factory and if so are the differences visual (marks or tweaks in look? what are they?) or functional (ie these wont fit say in a 67 or 68 Shelby GT500 housing w/3rd member).  I always thought they would work in any 67-70 9" housing with a 31 spline center section but can't remember for sure. Just hoping for a little education before I try to use them in a project or get rid of them.

I purchased a pair or new repro sail panels as I didn't have the originals and originality isn't a big deal for this car. I am used to working on earlier mustangs and not the 69/70 years and can't seem to envision how they mount. I tried Youtube but didn't see any videos. Basically on the back of them there is a square tab to insert a mounting clip like on door panels. Where else and how does it mount to the car?  I can't image one clip hold the entire sail panel?  If anyone could share some insight or pictures I'd really appreciate it.  Thanks

In case you haven't seen it, go out to YouTube and search for "We found the largest ford/Shelby performance car collection".  The Petersen Museum just released it (They have a number of great collection videos).   The collection owner is a Gary Thomas.  As someone who doesn't have a collection like that its amazing to see rows with multiples of the Shelby years and Boss cars.  There are two videos- well worth the watch.

I was looking at a 68 fastback project of mine last night and noticed the bump out area in the upper metal structural area below the rear glass which is hidden behind the interior fiberglass vent panels (red primer picture).  I never noticed that before and it looks like an attachment point for something but I have no idea what.  The second rear interior picture is on my 67 fastback (rusty sheet metal) and it doesn't not have that bump-out in the metal. I thought it was odd they would create it as a one year thing.  Have any ideas on why that was added in 1968 and what that was used for?

I am trying to hook up my new taillight wire assembly and new pigtail kit for the bulbs.  The right and left tail harness have a black post wire, a black flag end wire and the green/red or red/white wires.  Seems like to many wires coming out of the harness for the simple black and red ones available on the pigtail extensions.  Can someone tell me if they are all used and what wires should be connected with what? Thanks.

Here is my mystery for today. I was cleaning up and found 2 large washers in with my 67 Shelby spares. Anyone know what there are used for- odd that they have a part number (ID54-200) on a washer so I figured I'd ask.

I am going to spring Carlisle for the first time and can only go on Friday 4/23 or Saturday 4/24. Is there a better day to go which would have the most vendors? I know the longer you wait to go some parts may disappear. I don't need anything special just trying to time when the most stuff would be there from a swap meet perspective (don't car about the auction etc.). If you know the meet and have thoughts on it let me know. Thanks!

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / Fuel line variations?
March 16, 2021, 11:19:42 AM
I see 1967 gas line listings for a early and late two piece 5/16 lines,  one piece versions and a 3/8 two piece version.  What is the proper one for a stock late GT500? Thanks!

I just had my 67 booster rebuilt and am putting new lines in etc. I don't have the sensor part that goes into the middle top of the distribution block. Does anyone know of suppliers who sell them and what they are called?   Thanks.

When I got my late 67 the previous owner took parts off for a refresh, never labeled anything, and then let it sit for decades before coming to me. I'm trying to make sense of a few wires and my old wiring diagram isn't helping me (I'm sure its me not the diagram!).  I am hoping someone can tell me what these purplish wires are for, the single thicker pink one and the red/yellow with red/green that go into a single plug are for.

Additionally, the back of my cluster has a black and red wire for the tach. I have a tach harness but have no idea where and how the two connect.

If anyone has pictures or can fill in the gaps I'd appreciate it.  Thanks.

Its time for new tires for my 67 and I have seen many people using these Goodyears versus modern looking Radial TA's or black walls. I haven't decided what to get because I wanted to see where these tires are available and the cost.  If there are current sources you know of let me know.  Thanks.

I am going through my brakes and need a new booster. If anyone know a source for the new look alike Midland replacement boosters please PM me. Also, I guess as an option I saw on Rock Auto they have a relationship with someone who will rebuilt my old one for around $240.  If anyone has a recommendation for an alternative rebuilder let me know (not sure what I'd get out of a rockauto rebuild!).  Thanks.

Hello, My 1967 Shelby GT500 clutch fork has a hole worn through it from the rod from the z-bar (past owners handy work from many years ago). I was going to buy a new one and CJ has a 65-68 fork (looks like ones I've seen on small blocks) but it does not say big block or small- are they all the same?  If not the same is there a good source for them someone can point me towards?  Thanks.

I am in the market for a clutch kit for my GT500 and prefer to buy a kit so I get the clutch pieces, pilot bushing, throw out bearing etc. and don't have to figure out individual parts to buy.  If I go to Summit there are tons of choices and it seems like even narrowing down by model and engine some may not work.  I'm just looking for a basic/ stock style street set-up for a car that probably won't see many miles and is a driver not a show car.  If anyone can recommend a brand and specific part number I'd appreciate it.

I have a 1970 Boss 302 and have what I believe is the original tach harness (Is the one with the white plug going into gauge cluster shown).  I have been repairing some hacked spots but have two wires that are throwing me off.  Both are on the section that goes to the engine compartment to the starter solenoid- they are the yellow wire and a red wire that go back towards the main harness but both are cut and seemingly go nowhere ( I don't have any non connected wires to hook them to).  I looked on two spare 1970 harnesses from a non tach car (shown as the black plug that goes into gauge cluster) and on those harnesses the yellow and red wire mentioned above go into the black plug that goes into the gauge cluster. The clear plug does not have those wires. The wires are definitely different colors going into the two different plugs. I assume that may be because of the tach but now I have two wires to nowhere and a white gauge plug that looks like it never had them.   The wiring diagrams I have doesn't show the differences. I'm at a loss and don't want to install my metal dash assembly until I get the harness squared away.   I know I'm grasping here but I'm hoping someone has some ideas.

Hello Everyone,
When I got my late 67 the nose wasn't attached. I want to mount it now and am not sure how it mounts to the fenders or the brackets. It seems like the areas that mount to the fenders are with clips? But from where and which direction would the bolts go?  Are the areas that mount to the brackets- screwed in, riveted, bolts (when/where)?  Any diagrams or pictures you can post would be appreciated as the one I posted below is all I could find on the internet showing the nose and I don't know if its correct. Thanks in advance for your help.

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / Cross Member ID Help Needed
April 08, 2020, 11:32:44 AM
I raised this question in the Lounge area in the past but didn't have pictures and figured it may be better suited in the 67 section. I need help identifying which one was my correct 67 GT500 4spd brace visually (can't find any numbers saying 390 etc.).  I removed some from cars this winter to clean and got them mixed up.

Number one is the black one on top and number 6 is the rusty elongated slot one on the opposite end. Number one is taller than 2,3 or 4 and the cutout on the right is simply rounded like the opposite side.  Number 2, 3 and 4 seem to be the same, have the pronounced cut-out on the right side but oddly number 4 has that half inch wide flat area on each side that seems wider then the other three and has that one small pointy area.
Number 5 and 6 I assume are for my 69 gt350 AT car and 70 Boss 302 which I believe are the same as regular cars? (with the exception of the C6 unique one).

I promise to label things better next time!
