^^^^ Love the grin on the driver's face.

I wonder if that was supposed  to be CS?  He's well dressed.

Some more "new" history? CS didn't have 2 nickels to rub together in 1975. He was surviving and paying the bills from what his GoodYear race tire franchise was earning.

Wow, under these circumstances, it is surprising he held onto his 3 iconic Cobras.

Many would have cashed them out.
CS did BK a few times but there were many places/companies where he could shuffle different assets. The tire company was his steady producer for all the time he owned it. He almost lost his Coupe when the guy who owned the Imperial Palace called his note. The guy running LV Speedway was married to the daughter of the Imperial Palaces owner. They got divorced and he got canned. The owner wanted his 2.5 million the SIL had loaned CS for the facility at the track (CS had never made a payment and guaranteed the loan with the Coupe). Kinda the same thing that happened in 67 when Ford took all the assets and trademarks of SA when his 1962 startup loan came due. I was always amazed he kept the last produced Lincoln convertible (1966?). Ford had given it to him.

Yep, Richie Kline was the Imperial Palace guy.   Met him a couple of times when he was building the racetrack.  Including when it was just dirt and sand.

Thanks for link!  Yep, that's the Revell slot car building! The big upright sign panel on the left side of the photo (seen in the link) was (I think) constructed previously for the supermarket that was in that building.

The building was torn down about 5-10 years ago, but had been previously converted into some separate little businesses, I think.

When it was Revell, it was unbelievable the number of tracks they had, in layouts like Riverside, Sebring, Bridgehampton, etc.

Culver City was a hotbed of car enthusiast activity in '50s-80s. Isky Cams, Traco, Guldstrand, Revell, etc.   One of my high school buddies' mom worked at Revell, but I never thought to ask where it located, or what she did there.   I had aged out of slot cars by then, and was into real cars.

I remember when it was called Classic Speedway.   I love the photo in the link of the young guys with their matching suits (not driving suits!) and ties on, preparing to race.

Note to Mr. Moderator:  IMO, this topic of slot cars has relevance to the Spector Daytona, via Revell.

^^^Thanks for the scan of the ad.

Imagine my surprise when I googled the address and discovered Russkit was about a mile-and a-half from my house in Culver City!

I had a Cobra 427 slot car painted candy apple red in the late '60s.  Can't recall if it was a Russkit.  Looked cool when I ran it at the big Revell slot car track, near LAX, every weekend for a few months, as a kid.

I'm surprised he didn't crash the hell out of it on his first drive.   I doubt he had the skills to properly handle that car.

Kent, I've had some luck with  MyLife.com

They have more info on a person than about any place I've located, on line.

Old school problem solving:  Round-up the townspeople with pitchforks and torches and go pay the monster a visit.

I would think that most of us grew up in the '50s, '60s or '70s.  I'm talking being teenagers and in our 20s. Back then, it was almost sacrilegious to be seen in a 100% stock muscle car.

"Stock" meant slow, compared to the cool street cruisers/racers that I grew up seeing on Van Nuys Bl, etc, in SoCal.  Or at the local drags, on "run what you brung" nights.

I'm taking about street-driven, daily drivers, not pro race cars.  Most of us only had one car.  And we were just regular young guys out looking for everything that young guys seek.

"Stock" cars in my day were either Day One brand new (that's ok), or your sister's car (not cool) or perhaps your mom's car (definitely not cool.)

By age 30, most of the muscle car owners guys had aged out, gotten married, had kids, and weren't the ones out there street racing any more. Their muscle cars went on to their second and third owners (more teenagers and/or 20-somethings) who modified them even more.

Turn the clock ahead the 50+ years to today, and we're mostly old-ish guys.  Some of us owned muscle cars back in the day, but many didn't.  That's ok too.

I'm a Day Two guy, and always have been.  Stripes, mags, fat rear tires, Hurst shifters, headers, giant carbs, built engines, transplanted engines (427!) all the stuff.  We cruised and raced and tore our stuff up doing so, then fixed and improved it the next week.  Always seeking better, faster, cooler. That was the era.

Today, I'm a bit more enlightened, and even like and respect the guys who go the to extremes to have a perfect concours car.    ;D ;D ;D ;D

Peel out...

Also interesting would be to know what the philosophy was in Shelby's mind, and those of his top guys, about NOT putting OTT stripes on the '67s.

They looked great on the earlier cars that had them, and probably helped sell some of those GT350s.

Was Shelby American's (and/or Ford's) new design philosophy for '67 that their cars should look more subdued/classy...and thus no stripes...not even as an option?

I find that curious.   Why not offer them and charge the extra bucks?

This may have been discussed before.  Anyone know?

Mark and Tony...Yes part of the 15 seconds!   ;D ;D ;D

Thankfully, I'm not the guy in the photo Tony posted, nor in the description. Nor is Cameron Vanderwhatever my name.  ;)

Give you a hint...

Seems like I've met that guy who rode with Carroll at Indy.  I think he has a KR and a Kirkham, and loves 427s.

Wonder what happened when the front wheels touched down.   A wild ride into the guardrail?

^^^^ +1!

Plus, Brock has always been a super nice and congenial guy every time I've chatted with him.

Most recently was at Mike McCluskey's shop. Brock dropped by to see what was in the shop that day.
