A paint color change comes to mind, for this cube, or one of the 17.

Agreed, plus the fact that putting "Racing" on the label means it must be better.

I'm surprised there's not "Racing" toilet paper.

Glad to hear it's at least a non-embarrassment of a movie, from a Shelby car owner's perspective.

Also glad that there's a film that brings Carroll, Miles, et al, into the consciousness of the general public. They deserve the recognition.

But, it would have been very interesting if the old man had been alive during the production, and got to be a consultant, if not a producer.

If Damon actually got to talk with Carroll at length, he probably would have been able to do a better job portraying him. And, it would've been fun to hear about Carroll's comments on everything to do with the film.

Does Damon swear as often and as creatively as CS did?  When I worked for him, he once told me "I want that car as shiny as a kernel of corn up a goat's ass."   That's Carroll.

It's such an early special Carroll Shelby prototype that I 'll bet it's fiberglass!

If that isn't automotive sacrilege, I'm not sure what would be.

Maybe our super-sleuths Szabo and Richstang can decipher vintage photos of the Whittier and Santa Fe Springs facilities to find out... ;D

Randy,
No problem, I didn't think you were disputing my info.

I don't recall seeing the wide body car. But, it seemed like cars were continually being moved around in the shop, the storage lot out back, and wherever else they could find to park some iron.

Maybe it was kept at the Chrysler Shelby Development Center in Santa Fe Springs, which pre-dated the Whittier location. (Approx 1982-87 for Santa Fe Springs, IIRC)

I wonder how much that weighs?

Shelby's assembly line in Whittier CA that built the CSX-T and Shelby Dakota V-8 truck (1988-89) was Shelby Automobiles.

I know, because I worked there. Managed the press fleet and PR.

There was a Pantera at the facility with a Lotus-head Chrysler 2.2 turbo, and one with the Chrysler V-8. My memory is that it was a 360, not a 340, as the 360 was in production, and the 340 was not.

Based on the other things in the photo that we suspect we know the color of, and how black-and-white film reproduces such photos, my guess is the car is blue.  Red tends to look much more grey in a B&W pix.

However, since there were green cars, as noted by Jim P., there's a possibility it could also be a metallic green.  Similar appearance in B&W as a metallic darkish blue.

What color was the 1963 Michigan license plate?  That might help.

Just my $0.02 as a long-time car photog.

Nice ramp safety.  Was that back when The Duke Boys drove a Shelby?

Do you know if the Dearborn Inn will survive?  Lots of fascinating and salacious stories, if that old hotel could talk!

And James Scott Bumgarner.

Too bad (as far as we know) the three of them were never on the same track at the same time. That would been one helluva race.

In Garner's autobiography, it does say that he lived near McQueen for a while in Brentwood, CA.  Each had a Mini Cooper and they used to race each other down the neighborhood's twisty streets.
