1966 Shelby GT350/GT350H / 289 fuel pump options ?
March 20, 2020, 01:59:08 PM
So I sent my original 4201 pump to Fred Ballard in November to get restored / rebuilt.  Long story short, his machine broke, took till early March to get a fix in place with some continued challenges.  He has not gotten mine rebuilt yet and the guy that does his crimping is not well and he's not sure about being able to get the plating done given the lockdown in California.  Sooooo, despite Fred's best efforts, he is not in a position to commit when I will get my pump back.   Now I'm thinking about a temporary solution as I would like to get the car on the road again in the next month.  All that said, 1) does anyone have a good used non original pump that they know works and would do the job, that they would sell, or 2) given there are many pumps out there that you can buy new (Holley, Edelbrock, Carter etc.) that would fit, and would do the job, any recommendations on which might be the best temporary solution.  Occasional street use only.   Thanks, John

Italy did not take the covid 19 virus seriously or fast enough and 2,500 people are already dead and the country is effectively shut down.  In my view, we can take the advice of public health professionals and scientists and be part of the effort to shut this down as quickly as possible, or we risk being part of the reason that does not happen.  To each his own.  I'm healthy and would love to go to SAAC 45, but unless the situation in north america turns around by then, I won't be there.

I'm missing my Snake Bite Bulletins after 1994 for a few years.  In July of 94 there are a few 66 GT 350s listed in the $30-40K range.  I'm sure some others would have some bulletins for '96.  You may also want to check auction house history for GT 350's sold in that timeframe.  Pretty sure that B-J has that available online.  Not sure about others.

I was told that Joe Bunetic is one of the best at rebuilding Holley carbs.  I believe he is in the Chicago area,

Hagerty published this article on Sunday with their views of the auctions last week.  Nothing Shelby specific but an interesting read.  Fewer  big money cars, very nice cars brought strong money, average cars brought less $$ on average...    https://www.hagerty.com/articles-videos/articles/2020/01/16/auction-results-for-the-2020-arizona-auction-week?utm_source=SFMC&utm_medium=email&utm_content=20_January_21_Newsletter_NewDD    That was pretty much my observation as well after being at BJ for a couple of days.  One interesting observation for me was how well the restomod late 50's / early to mid 60's vets did bringing in some of the best $$ and they seemed to be very nicely done cars.  Great place for people and car watching.  Probably the most fun I had was doing the Performance Ford Ride and Drive.  They were beating the Shelbys to death non stop all day long.

Wanted to Buy / Re: 1966 Holley 715 CFM carb

My car was built at San Jose mid March 66 and I was told by knowledgeable people on this forum that any date from fall of '65 through February 66 would be feasible for my carb.  If your car was built in mid to late April, I assume a carb dated anywhere from later in '65 through to March 66 would be feasible.  Others may want to chime if they have different views.

Happy to help.  I live just north of Toronto.  Pretty unusual for someone up here not wanting to ship south.  John

I signed up to run a few cars at the M1 Concourse in Pontiac Michigan through Extreme Experiences on May 21.  Two of the three cars I chose are these two so it should be interesting to run each for three laps to see how they compare.  Should be fun.  I've never done one of these multi car track experiences before.

1966 Shelby GT350/GT350H / Re: 65 - 666Valve covers

Not sure if it was a survey or just a listing of known valve cover types by 66 GT 350 car number.  I recall contributing my info to it and not sure but I think it was Jeff Speegle who owned the list.

Fred and I exchanged emails yesterday to confirm he received my fuel pump.  He was part of the mandatory evacuation last weekend and only got back into his house yesterday.  There were houses burnt as close as 3 blocks away from his.  The complete story he recounted was a lot longer and pretty incredible.  He is safe and very lucky !

Just sent my 4201S to Fred today for restoration.  Can't wait to get it back given the stellar reputation he has.
