Thanks, Tim!  I can get a nice set of '68 Fairlane/Torino plates at a good price.  Could I use those without issue?  Thanks!

Does anyone know off hand which other 9" Ford backing plates are acceptable substitutes for the original KH units found on the '66 Shelbys?  Mine are useable but severely rusted as my car spent time on the East coast.  I'm actually doing a rear brake job now.  What fun!  I am not concerned about originality at this point as this car is strictly a driver.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks much!

Up For Auction / Re: Hertz zippo

I really don't see how this can be advertised as a Hertz GT 350H Shelby lighter.  A Hertz lighter, yes, but I don't see any link to the Shelby.  Take a look at EBay completed listings under "Hertz Zippo lighter Mustang".  The ones that sold for crazy money are not even Mustangs!  The one that was actually a Mustang sold for $60 which must have been a buy-me-now.  All very interesting.

Sometimes a little powdered graphite lubricant sprayed into the lock will work.  I've used this on difficult home entry doors with good success.

Interesting the way a '66 Mustang AM 8-Track with bezel was adapted to fit the '68 radio opening (being a radio guy I notice things like that).

Great news!  Half the battle is finding a reputable shop that you can trust.  It makes sleeping at night much easier!
Keep us posted on the fire-up.

Concours Talk / Re: Steering Wheels

There were also some real wood "66 style" steering wheels available through a couple of vendors quite a few years back.  I think they went for about $300 but I believe they are no longer available.  I actually have one that I acquired long before the reproductions were even advertised.  How it came to be I can't really say for sure.  I suppose a steering wheel restorer could remove the plastic and replace it with wood.  I saw one at SAAC 43 on a '66 Hertz.

Thanks, Pete, for the "Summer Sales" link from the Coralsnake.  That's a great tie-in!  How did I miss that?  I probably forgot that I perused it back in 2013.  I ALWAYS view the Coralsnake in its entirety!  Oh well.  The brain just ain't what it used to be.  My memory bumps things out without asking permission!

Nice to see more of these come to the surface.

I wonder if her pink '69 Shelby was brought to the dealership.  It would have been great to help promote sales.

Thanks for the pics!  Please keep them coming.  It's the next best thing to being there.

Here is a neat item I bought off eBay.  It's a nearly full-page newspaper ad found in the Herald News that was taken out by Werner Ford in Garfield, NJ.  It's announcing that Playboy Playmate of the Year Connie Kresti (actually Kreski) will be at the dealership on Nov. 15th 1969 to personally introduce the new 1970 Shelby.  How cool is that!  Just to top things off someone by the name of Nick was lucky enough to procure an autographed photo signed by Connie herself!  Maybe that was enough to get him, and possibly some others, to place their order!  Actually, according to an article in one of the SAAC annuals, this dealership sold 42 1969-70 Shelbys.  Enjoy!

Is the owner kept in the loop at all during these restorations?  I know the owner of this car wanted it to be left as original as possible.  I guess "as possible" are the key words.  Too bad there wasn't more on the actual restoration of this car, especially the rust issues.

^^^  Must be those cool wheels on the coupe that's "exciting" the bidders.  The remnants of the factory AC AND a factory AM 8-Track add icing to the cake.
