1966 Shelby GT350/GT350H / 289 valve stem seals
September 26, 2019, 07:56:08 PM
For a re-build, is it recommended to stay with the umbrella design deflector shields or go to a positive seal?  I have been told that it may be difficult to find a positive seal in the size needed for the K-heads.

Saw that car at a show in Lakeland, FL a couple of years ago.  It appeared to have been recently restored and presented beautifully.   Previously, I had seen the same car when it was a 4-speed white/blue stripe car back in 2010.  Congratulations, you have a very nice looking car - enjoy it!

1966 Shelby GT350/GT350H / Re: 1966 production date

Thanks for the responses.

More info:  the block date code is 6A26 and the engine assembly date is 6B10.  With respect to the VIN numbers supplied by Cory, my Ford VIN 189--- falls in the April production run.

Does anyone know whether or not a production record from Ford exists that would list a firm production date for a specific VIN?

1966 Shelby GT350/GT350H / 1966 production date

Is it possible to determine the actual production date of a car using the Ford VIN?

Information on file in the Registry under the Shelby VIN lists only the order and shipping dates for this car.  There apparently is a 289K registry book, however, the Ford VIN for the car I am researching is not listed on the page listing San Jose K-Codes with a range of Ford VINS that should include this car.

1966 Shelby GT350/GT350H / master cylinder cap color
March 06, 2019, 03:17:21 PM
Can someone please advise me what is the correct color/finish of the master cylinder cap for a 1966 GT350?  I have been told that it should be painted black.

Does anyone have a source for a stamp to apply the red Autolite logo and other data to an alternator for a 1966 car?

SAAC-43 / Thanks to all

Many of us came from a great distance but it was worth it.  Thanks to all the SAAC and NORCAL staff and the many volunteers that made a truly memorable convention.  Even the chicken I had at the banquet was good!  Thanks again.

1966 Shelby GT350/GT350H / Re: What gear to run

Correction to the typo in my post dated 7/4/18:  My car allegedly has a 3.50 rear axle ratio, not a 3.25 as I originally posted.  It feels like a 3:89 though.  Wish I had a 3:25.

My T-10 4-speed with 14" BFG radials and a 3.50 rear axle ratio runs 3,000 rpm at 55 mph, 3,250 at 60, 3,500 at 65 and 4,000 at 70.   Although the car is just driven to weekly local cruise-ins and shows with minimal highway use, I believe a 3.25 would be a better fit for me.

Is it necessary to register or pick up your pre-registration credentials at the track prior to attending this event?

As a 1966 GT350 owner, I follow auction sales with interest.

Ten major auction sales for 2017 to January 2018 reported sales ranging from $115,500 and $297,000 and one "no sale" high bid of $200,000.  The average for these 11 cars was $178,000.  For most of these cars, available information explained both the lower sales (color change, incorrect transmission, etc.) and the higher prices brought by exceptionally low mileage original cars or concours quality originals. I did not count either the $550,000 sale of 6S001 or the $742,500 paid for 6S2377; one of the four original convertibles.  I also left out a private sale of a condition 3 green car for $170,000 of which I am personally aware.

Hagerty's prices do tend to run a little high but they may reflect correct or unmodified cars only and not the full range of those mentioned above.  Maybe some of you can provide more information on this topic.
