Thanks for the enlargements.  I grew up near LAX, in the S-A days and I believe the "sound wall" was also a "jet wash deflector."

The Going Thing might be able to shed additional light on this.

Pretty sure I don't have any idea of what the correct/official names of things are around an airport ;)
I have most typically heard them referred to as blast walls.

Looked at the comments on BAT and we fell of our chairs laughing on this particular one...priceless  !
It would be funny and outrageous IMO to be that concerned about a small 1/64 variance if it were true. It of course is not. The brave anonymous poster is apparently clueless given he obviously is not familiar with what original 67 Shelby stripes look like let alone what SAAC concours expectations are on the subject.  Although I don't remember it being mentioned in this thread the reality is the stripe on the auction car is far more off the mark then 1/16.  ;) The stripes are not done for a 67 Shelby instead it is done in the 68 Shelby configuration. There is a difference how the center stripe is laid out and how the GT 500/ GT 350 are centered on the fender. One way is correct for 67 and the other correct for 68. Of course that kind of detail is only important on cars that try to look factory original . It is a common mistake for uninformed restorers. I assume the poster was told something was wrong and couldn't figure it out so posted a outrageous comment instead.

Hi, my quarter panel aluminum trim is starting to oxidize in multiple places.  I would like to remove them to clean them up by sanding away the oxidation and subsequently polishing the aluminum.  Is there a trick to removing them without damaging the paint???  I have the article from Mustang Monthly on how to properly install them but I need to remove them without causing any damage...if possible!  Thanks for looking!

All the best, Steve
Steve ,since you said that they are oxidizing in places leads me to believe that they may still have the Brite Dip anodizing like when new. The anodizing degrades with time in places and not typically all over or all at once. This clear coating is difficult to sand through . I have seen some that the sanding through it caused a irregular surface after because the coating was thinner in spots . I would consider chemically stripping them first . Don't ask me the best thing to use on anodizing because I have forgotten what I used. If you do choose to sand through the anodizing proceed with caution. FYI most choose to not anodize them after polishing and choose to re polish every so often. You can carefully do that successfully on the car by taping off . There is a difference between the Brite Dip anodizing process used by the MFG and the regular anodizing done by most platers. The Brite Dip is a commercial process leaves a shiny protective surface surface on aluminum trim. Regular anodizing a duller surface on shiny aluminum. You can really tell a big difference between the two process. I have seen many that used the regular process and they look much duller . A polished Shelby 1/4 window trim is much better looking then a dull incorrect anodize job.  Many platers that do the Brite Dip process advertise in Hemmings. Be careful if you choose to go that route because believe it or not many platers don't know the difference and say they do (only if asked) the process but in reality don't. Typically safer with the ones that advertise that they do.  A un anodized polished finish looks slightly different when compared side by side to one polished and brite dip anodized but only minimally . The correct look should be noticed by concours judges but easily over looked because of the minimal difference. I wanted to make sure you are aware of the differences so that you and others reading can make a informed decision that makes the most sense to your situation.

Regardless of any perceived short comings it is a over all nice car ,desirable color and trans. I will be surprised if it doesn't do well.

My '67 GT 500 (#0962) had an AM/FM radio. I bought that new from S&C Ford. It had been in their inventory about three days. For some reason I thought there were speakers in the lower door panels. The radio had a slide switch to go from AM to FM. This car was different as had no strips and hubcaps. Can't really imagine S & C switching out the radio before it sold to me.
Speakers only came in the doors with a AM 8 track option. The AM FM in 67 was mono not stereo . The car may be different now with no stripes given many still think they all came that way . When new 67 Shelby's did not come with Le Mans from SA. Hubcaps were the base wheel for a 67 Shelby so many came with them when new.

I had a slightly earlier car that had inboard lights. Factory.
Initially SA tried to send outboard cars to the states requiring them . That was hit and miss as far as shipping to dealers given historical observations. I talked to one of the workers who's job it was to install grills and he confirmed that after the last pallet of inboard grills were used they switched over to outboard grills and headlight components.SA used up inventory as more of a imperative  regardless of  SA started converting over approximately 800 cars previously .Not being finished in order can explain a few things but that is typically for later items being installed on lower VIN cars and not the reverse. With all of that said which is more likely a PO modification or a later car with a early feature conservatively 500 cars out of sequence ?  ;)

Bob:
I would have to imagine that discovering the individual state laws about headlights, at that point in production, was an "uh-oh" moment for Shelby American.

Given Ford's level of involvement at that time, do we know if it was S-A alone, or Ford, (or some combination of both) that footed the bill for the change over from inboards to outboards?
Just to be clear, there is no evidence to suggest that SA was taking inboard cars and converting them to outboard . Like I mentioned before the worker said they used up all of the inboard grill parts inventory before changing over to the outboard when they converted them to Shelby's. So there was no footing the bill for anything . Once they were built they were done. No changing. Although there were laws apparently they were not strict enough so as not to allow SA to get rid of already made up inventory. At least that was the way SA did things. ;)

Bob,  they are dots..
maybe this picture is better ?

Dave
Dave ,yes the picture is much better. Those are older style reproduction . The genuine canisters had stars not dots. It is a detail that the people reproducing them missed . The current repro has the correct stars but the color is off.

Does anybody have a source for someone that makes glass etching stencils? Not looking for company that sells glass etched but the stencils themselves
Thanks
Tim,check with Bossbill here. or on the concours site . I saw a ad today he placed on the concours forum for stencils he had made up to etch FOMOCO trademark headlight bulbs .Bill may be able to help with a recommendation.

Highly unusual that a 67 Shelby that late in production would have factory inboard lights.

They are on the car now! I followed the advise and used my grinder, they came out OK....One thing odd there is a pin that goes through a hole on the plate, but the pin is too short on the center, LOL None were long enough....I just laugh....Anyway, I have a set of Magstars and those plates are totally different....there is no way they would mix them up.

I seem to remember many years ago when I got a set of centers through Ford, that the wheel centers might have been plastic? These are metal...Anyway, its all good now!
The original centers were plastic.

Shouldn't be a deduction as long as they're "Dealer Installed".

I was just kidding guys. Dealer installed curb finders??
Sorry .So used to explaining that subject to people that I missed the friendly sarcasm .
