Hello Dave,

I run the FelPro 1250's on a set of ported HP289 heads done by Louie Unser hence the "HU" stamping (Heads by Unser) according to Randy. The Intake port openings measure 2 1/16" (my ruler is slightly bent as it was too long to rest flat) x 1 1/8".
I'm a little confused on your measurements: 2.20" x 1.24"? and 1.97" x 1.12" which is it? I'm guessing the latter.
Attached are a few pics I just took. The measurements, the FelPro 1250 on the head (held in place by studs on the ends and green frog tape in the middle.
You can see how close they are.
There is even a shot down the Weber intake (I run Weber's, Randy is not a fan of them) the intake is ported as well.
Anyway there you go. You didn't mention what heads you're running, HP289 or aftermarket?
Hope this helps. Lemme (us) know on those measurements???

Cheers

Richard,

You may want/should to disassemble and check the metering block with the diaphragm. You mentioned the carburetor experienced a "Backfire" through it. It may need a replacement.

It's funny, (well not really) I posted here on the forum earlier this year (end of March 2021) I was looking and requested help to identify a 68 GT350/500 I stumbled across through a friend here in northern New York.
It makes me wonder about the car currently being discussed here. I've determined the car I've been led to back in March in my mind had been stolen I truly believe.
I'll see if I can or someone can reference my old post. It's just too coincidental to me... just say'in.

I  Thought that Gerry had sold that car about 15 to 20 years ago when he sold his GT 40. I have known him for close to 45 years now and back in the day  he even used to drive a Lola on the street. He has owned a few Shelby's and some other interesting cars and even did some racing back in the fifties and sixties.. Gerry with the car in front of his house

Hey Roy, I remember when Gerry used to sell Lotus Cortina parts. Way back when he would be at Jack Schroll's Mostly Mustangs original location on that side street (23rd?) in Oakland, late 70's. Jack also drove/tracked Gerry's GT40 and some incident/crash?/fender bender with the GT40 at Laguna Seca.
I never felt comfortable being around Gerry Scheberies, nice guy but something very un-trusting about him and leave it at that.
Same time period that you and I met, some 43-44+ years ago. If I remember you had that Grabber blue BOSS 429 with the white interior. Or it was just there at Mostly at the time.
That attached picture looks to have been taken up on Skyline Blvd up in the Oakland hills.
Anyway, this cobra that Gerry is selling, I'd be careful...just say'in.

Gordon Gimbal would be another person who would definitely know, but Drew is easier to reach. Gordon on the other hand is easier to talk to. Just my opinion only.

Who knows the correct factory recommendations for the suspension on a 427 S/C with bronze bushings? What is the loaded ride height, camber and toe, front and rear? Goodyear Blue Streaks. I have street specs, but no accurate comp specs.

Any gurus out there?

Kim

Hello Kim,

Earl from NorCal here. Reach out to Drew Serb at the Cobra Experience in Martinez Ca. I'm not sure if you're planning to attend SAAC 46 but I believe there will be an event held there. He will definitely know the specs you are looking for, but not off the top of his head. Try contacting Emily Serb (daughter) to put you in contact with Drew. Keep in mind they would only be a "base line" for a comp car.
Been a long time, regards to your wife and daughter.

I have a customer who wants to run torque thrust on at 65 as he's going to be driving it. The tires are 215 60 15 Avon's. Will 7 inch fit or do we need to stick with 6 inch? Thanks in advance

Tim,
I run a set of PS Engineering TA wheels 15x8 with a 4 3/8" back spacing on my 65 front tires are 225/60-15 fronts and 245/60-15 rears. Unfortunately these wheels are no longer available from Phil Schmidt.

There are however American Racing 15x8 Torque Thrusts new version "D's" with a 4 1/2" back spacing. In order to achieve the same positioning as the PS wheels I have to add 1/8" spacers. I believe these wheels are readily available.

Wheel on the left is the AR 15x8 the mounted is the 15x8 PS Eng. wheel (see pic).

A currently available 15x7 only has a 3 3/4" back spacing which only allows a 215/60-15 and possibly another size without flatting the fenders/un-modified. It will also allow a 6.00/15 race tire, i.e. Goodyear Eagle, Hoosier, etc but needs fenders to be flattened (modified).

If you're between Hwy 50 and 80 east of Sac, give Kevin Sittner a call down at Precision Machine. He's down in Lodi (209) 369-2600. Kevin is very experienced racing and restoring Shelbys. He's also a member with NorCal Shelby.

I own 5S109 and the Ford Vin is definitely not sequential, not even close.

Showing again that they were not doing cars in sequence ! 77 and  110 it's pretty big gap for a small production like this.it would be interesting to know how it was back in the day , "hey go pick up a car in the next raw , doesn't matter witch one ! " :D

That's about right, it didn't matter during the production of GT350's. At least they made record of which Ford VIN was used for each unit built.
Interesting that these two cars are for sale within or considered the greater SF Bay Area. Fantasy Junction is over in Emeryville (Oakland/Berkeley) where 077 is, and Bruce Canepa's up in Scott's Valley which is normally about 15-20 minutes outside of San Jose. Traffic permitting...lol
As a collector it would be unique owning these two consecutive Ford VINs.
NC TRACKRAT is correct in that Bruce Canepa should know better or be more aware of his marketing people.

Very Nice  distributor. That's the M-12127-A304 I believe. I'd prefer that or the MSD labeled one. Are the orange Firecore wires readily available?

Thanks,

Randy is correct, those tach drive distributors are made by ACCEL I believe 37201T's or 39201T's. Funny one of them has a FoMoCo stamp on the body. Anyway I was originally referring to the JONES tach.
The XF tach drives Randy refers to I've seen only once, and have never seen one available ever.
If not for the ACCEL's I have, I'd try an find a more modern Ford Motorsport M-12127-A304 with tach drive which I believe were made by MSD who so happened to had one as well.
The only source for the Ford Motorsport piece was Nelson Specialties last time I looked. Make sure you're sitting down when you hear the price they quote you.

" Let me ask the group...  Is there any definitive book/publication on the BME Cougars?  I've read everything on Shelby over the years...  Haven't seen much at all on the TA Cougars"

You should try to reach out and contact Rich Rodeck, he would be the guru on the BME Cougars these days. He's here in the SF Bay Area, Ca.

You mentioned you like to "do it right".

Is that a political statement?

Even so, kinda' pricey to do these days and open to interpretation?

Earl, that tach must be noisy with that cable drive, no?

Doug, naaa you can't hear it because the whine from the Jerico is louder. It even drowns out the SW 240A.

I know he knew how to spell "W" ....dub-b-ya

In just two days from now, tomorrow will be yesterday. He will soon have an out-of-money experience.

For a street driven car the magnesium wheels wouldn't be wise especially 50 year old+ wheels. A set of PS Engineering (Phil Schmidt's) TA wheels in a 15x8 provided you can pry a set away from someone would be ideal.
Here's a closer peek at that JONES tach.
