Hey Doug,

Try a Hurst shifter boot. The second billow up measures 3 1/2 x 4 3/4. The base is proportionally larger. The basic shape is correct. Let me know I'll post a pic.

Cheers
~Earl J

Okay, here ya go. You'll need to get a little creative, but you can do it.
Another note before you post a pic, edit it. Spin the image 180* (degrees) before you post it. Thank you.

BG: "Vern, Vern! that one has the right steering wheel"
VE: "I know, but Earl is standing right there, and he's got a radio!"
BG: "I'll distract him. You saw all those women go the other way? He's a sucker for long legged women"
EC: " I heard that. Don't even. Just wait till you get back to Kansas City and give Vern what he wants"

Hey Vern,

Earl here. Question: is the wheel spokes connected at the hub area like #'s 120 on up (15" wheels) or are the spokes separated like the 16" Cobra/earlier GT350 wheels with the center ring?
Regardless, the only way to deepen the dish is to add material. (Cut & tig weld more material to desired depth than polish).
To deepen; spoke length is needed and bent on two planes, isn't going to happen economically.
Solution: head over to Bob G's storage and trade him something. Then sell off the one you're attempting to modify.

Cheers,
~Earl J

Wanted to Buy / Re: WTB: 'Aug '63 Timing Cover
June 05, 2023, 05:37:46 PM
Hello w Campbell,

I have an NOS C4AE 6059B but it's a January (one dot 64) that has a custom plug installed by my machinist and the little gap welded closed (see pics). I bought it long time ago Jim Cowles supplied the Dip Stick Tube.
You can also tell it's NOS as there are no witness marks for the front seal.
The cover/piece surfaces has been "squared" to insure it sits flat.
$300.00 via PayPal (friends & family) and it's yours.

I also have an Edelbrock water pump (new) for $100.00 more.

Cheers

I'm assuming this is for your Cobra.

Wanted to Buy / Re: License plates frames wanted

Hey Roy,
I forgot about Melrose Ford. I couldn't remember if I confused San Leandro and Melrose dealerships as they were pretty close together (relatively speaking) distance wise. Plus, I don't go to East Oakland... even back then.
You're up early...I'm in New York.

Wanted to Buy / Re: License plates frames wanted

The only 60's Ford dealership in Oakland Ca was Broadway Ford on 26th & Broadway.  Their License Plate frame read "Broadway Ford" "Oakland" they also had a 2"x6" gold with black border sticker/decal.
There was also San Leandro Ford, Hayward Ford, Golden Bear Ford in Berkeley, Albany Ford.
I am unfamiliar with the dealership the OP is referring to. I grew up in Oakland/Berkeley area?

GT40 - Original/Mk V / Re: Aluminum Honeycomb
March 20, 2023, 04:34:52 AM
My association and experience with Aluminum Honeycomb came in the way of competition alpine skis back in the mid 1970's.
I raced for a ski team at Squaw Valley's academy back then.
The company that built these skis is/was the HEXCEL Corporation, back then the emphasis was lightness. Aluminum Honeycomb was used as the core in place of wood cores for skis. They were extremely light weight. Their ads indicated they were from the aerospace industry, they were known for building helicopter blades. HEXCEL was based at one time in northern  California (Dublin). The skis were well received as a race ski but required special instructions for mounting Bindings (the mechanism that attaches ski boots, (for those who are unfamiliar with the sport)).
Attaching a binding required sticking a special tool to knock out a small area of honeycomb then filled with epoxy so the screws had material to hold on to.
They fell out of popularity because of the propensity for the bindings to rip out of the skis under competitive ski events.
I could imagine the Ford J cars had a special method for attaching the tubs.
Anyway, that's my experience/knowledge with aluminum honeycomb.
I believe the HEXCEL company still exists somewhere on the east coast.

Wanted to Buy / Re: Wanted R model parts

Roy,

No one in their right mind would or should use 50+ year old magnesium wheels other than for display only.
I would assume steve0shelby is building a car to drive. Aluminum would be the smartest choice.
But to each his own.

1969-1970 Shelby GT350/500 / Re: Continuation 69 shelby?
February 11, 2023, 12:49:12 PM
Continuation of what?

Someone's idea of a restomod Mustang draped with a 69 Shelby body panels, supercharged BOSS302 a little bit of present day signature stitching and maybe even a touch screen monitor! But does it have a backup camera?

Naaaa I'll pass. No backup camera and no ground effects. But then again, it's got the HEMI
Uh, no
