1965 GT350/R-Model / Re: Registering and titling a '65 GT350
« on: March 11, 2024, 10:43:57 PM »
Hello Mike, I live in Albuquerque and am a 40 year New Mexico car dealer. I am also a proud 66 GT 350 owner. If I can be of any help with getting your car properly registered please let me know. I would be happy to make a really good recommendation on an out-of-state vin inspector and the best title company in NM.  Message me if I can help. Thanks, Karl
I hope I get to see your car out and about some day soon.

Were the grills swapped it SA or San Jose?

Thanks Jeff, very helpful. One more question. Did the carryover cars which were actually 65s have a 66 grill installed at SA?

1966 Shelby GT350/GT350H / Brake scoops painted?
« on: September 13, 2023, 09:23:29 AM »
A question came up recently concerning painting the inside of the brake scoops black on early 66 GT350s, specifically 281 and even back through the carry over cars. I realized now I’m not sure if they painted the early 66 scoop openings black or not. Any thoughts, documentation, etc.?
Thanks

1966 Shelby GT350/GT350H / 1966 intake manifold gaskets
« on: August 27, 2023, 09:56:55 AM »
I’m about ready to assemble the engine for 6S281. My question concerns intake manifold gaskets. I have the attached list that came from Jeff Spiegel which has been very handy. They are described in Jeff’s list as “white/off white, may have top and bottom markings”. Has anyone found a particular intake gasket that would be the white/off-white? Are there any NOS assembly line intake gaskets available out there? Thoughts?
Thanks very much

1966 Shelby GT350/GT350H / Re: Sill Plate Emblem for 66
« on: August 24, 2023, 09:31:49 PM »
I recently acquired this copy of an original design of the 66 GT 350 door sill plate tag. It was drawn by a Mr. Kerr who apparently worked under Peter Brock. It was signed off and approved by a young project manager named C. Cantwell. Chuck Cantwell signed off on it 7/6/65. It might be helpful to this conversation because it shows a lot of dimensions and even the raised areas that they designed into the plate. Under the material to be use section, it says “foil with adhesive backing”. The sample in the lower left corner is smooth but I believe it was just a test sample.

1966 Shelby GT350/GT350H / Charlie McHose
« on: August 20, 2023, 12:59:14 AM »
After a recent and short discussion on the forum about 66 rear spoilers, I found this cool picture on line.
Chuck Cantwell confirmed that is in fact Charlie McHose. He is standing next to the 66 GT350 that SA let him use while he was hard at work styling the 67 Shelby’s in the summer of 66.
Does anyone have information on the car in the picture or the story on the rear spoiler?

Up For Auction / Re: SFM6S1716 at Mecum Dallas
« on: August 16, 2023, 08:25:20 AM »
Thanks Jeff for the spoiler history lesson, very interesting. CS certainly got the spoiler design right by 67 with some help from Chuck McHose.
Thanks Bobby for the original post, it will be interesting to see what the car sells for this time around.

The rear deck lid and quarter extensions seem to have the same patina as the rest of the cars paint. I may be totally wrong, but I seem to remember hearing that a few of the 66 cars came with rear spoiler’s. Truth or urban legend? The registry states it was originally ordered with ten spokes, Detroit locker and although it currently has a rear seat it was also ordered with a package shelf. What a nicely optioned 66, especially if the spoiler is original!

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / Re: Someone Called Me To Buy My '67 GT500

Being an auto dealer myself I certainly don’t have a problem with dealers trying to locate and purchase particular vehicles. However, in this case it is the apparent lack of honesty with this broker/dealer I have a big problem with!

1966 Shelby GT350/GT350H / Get the lead out!
« on: July 18, 2023, 03:12:47 PM »
I would appreciate some informed opinions, especially those of the judges in our midst. 6S281 is currently in a paint job from 1977. Fortunately, the original lead seams are all present and hard to miss because of the poor factory quality. My question is this, is it better to leave the lead seams the way they came from San Jose or is there good reason to strip the lead and correct the body work in those areas? I am really torn on this one because I am old enough to remember what these cars looked like when they were new, my goal is to make it look as delivered when new in 65. Thoughts please?

1966 Shelby GT350/GT350H / Re: Differential marking information.
« on: July 09, 2023, 06:42:48 PM »
Thank you, Jeff, great call on the number two between the C, and the 3. I carefully cleaned a little more of the white and blue overspray and there is a faint two not a dash.
Do you have pictures of Roger’s Differential from 280? If not, I can reach out to him for photos. It would be very interesting to compare the two. Thanks!
