I am beginning to document special markings on 6S281 prior to disassembly. I want to be sure and get everything possible and get it correct. I believe the picture clearly shows D. S. O which I believe indicates Detroit special order, correct me if I'm wrong please. It is the symbols that appear to be C – 3 that I am uncertain about. Is it a C or is it an O or is it something else? Does anyone know what the symbol means? Thank you very much everyone.

A friend sent me this link this morning, I was surprised at the April 63 date on these heads. I'm anxious to hear the groups thoughts on these parts.

I decided to see if anyone on the forum needs this prior to advertising it on eBay. This is a left-hand bucket assembly only, in perfect as new condition. There is no bezel or hardware kit included. It will be shipped in the original Ford box. $100 plus actual shipping. Thank you very much.

We are clearly talking about the 15 x 6" wheels, they are different than the 5 1/2 inch wheels which were typically welded. No, I don't believe changing a fender or a quarter panel or other parts make a real Shelby a re-creation, that would be considered a "refurbished" vehicle or restored. This is like comparing a cloned Car which would be a "re-creation" to a "refurbished" car which would be a restored Car.
All that said, I truly wish you all the luck in the world selling your wheels, they are very nice and I look forward to seeing what the final number is. I hope they find a great home.

After a friendly back and forth this morning with Ruben, I resigned myself to let it go and forget the whole wheel thing. All day I've been wondering why I still have heartburn over the topic of these wheels and Rubens ad, but I finally figured it out. As many of the SAAC members have I have studied extensively the original 15 x 6 Kelsey Hayes wheels used on the 66 GT350 Shelby's. The big problem is this, they are still being described in the BAT ad as "refurbished". No matter what anyone says these wheels are not refurbished they are re-created, there is a big difference. The spiders are Kelsey Hayes, but from an unknown wheel, which is OK, because they all look the same. The barrels are new and welded together They actually look very nice from the outside but really wrong on the inside, also welded not riveted. They are very good looking wheels and will work great for someone who doesn't need correct originals.
Re-created, not refurbished would be the honest description. Still, I wish Ruben the best of luck with his ad, and I hope the wheels find the perfect home.

Here are some pictures of original rim profile, as well as Kelsey Hayes factory stamp, and correct rivets. The first picture is of the wheels listed on BAT. I believe the wheels on Bat are re-created wheels, using new barrels and spiders off narrower KH wheel. Perhaps a better description would be 66 Shelby re-creation Wheels. They do look great, and would be perfect for someone who doesn't need the wheels on their car to be exact or original.

After owning 6S281 from 1974 until 1983, I was fortunate enough to buy it again in 2017. It has not run since the late 80s. It had been closed up in a very small storage garage in at my house since it came home to Albuquerque, but today all that changed. I have managed to amass an amazing collection of correct and NOS parts over the last 6 years. Many of the parts, and certainly lots of information a result of the help and generosity from this group, thank you. It is now in the new garage and it is time to begin the restoration! I'm sure I'll be reaching out to the group with millions of  questions over the next couple of years, thanks in advance

Craig, You might look into having your new shoes arched by a brake shop. That is a process where the new shoes are surfaced to the correct arch so they fully contact the drum surface. You can simply hold the shoe against the drum friction surface and check for arch contact. Arching them with the proper equipment will remove areas of material from the shoes and may give you the clearance you need as well as maximizing the braking efficiency. It is an old school process but was very common back in the drum brake days. Just a thought. Good luck.

Just curious, are any of the SAAC members coming to Albuquerque this June for the MCA national show? It's being held at the Albuquerque balloon fiesta park, an absolutely beautiful venue.

That's funny, quite a coincidence. I know Steve currently lives about five minutes from WestTech, he recently downsized. He grew up in Albuquerque New Mexico, which is where I live. Steve was always one of our local hot rodders, and a very nice guy.
