I really really like C2 Corvettes but I love my 66 GT 350. Here's a picture of what has been holding up the restoration of 6S281. A custom Nassau blue 65 Corvette BB roadster which is burning huge amounts of hours, fabrication and of course money.  I have had so many people try to get me to put the vette on the back burner and start the Shelby. Right or wrong I am determined to finish what I had started prior to buying the Shelby. I am hopeful 281 will get underway this summer. One good thing about waiting on the Shelby is it has allowed me to amass the most amazing collection of correct parts, I have lots and lots of cool and correct parts in old Ford blue boxes. Nice thing is the 65 Vette is really close, very exciting! Weird, I never ever imagined members would be posting pictures of Corvette's on the SAAC forum.

Concours Talk / Re: Data Plate Paint Removal
April 09, 2023, 09:57:38 AM
Great idea starting with one of the screws for experimentation. I'm not sure if you plan to remove the plate from the door or not but the rivets would be a similar substrate as the tag, they might work well to experiment on. I like jeff's recommendation of enamel reducer, it can be very mild. You might even experiment with fingernail polish remover on a small spot. You can always work up to the really strong solvents like lacquer thinner if necessary. It is nice that you have the original tag in place in spite of the paint. Good luck.

You might also consider checking your headlight switch. The potentiometer in your switch for adjusting the dash lights could be your problem.

I have heard good things about the comp cam.
I did check with Holman Moody this morning on their C30Z-6250-C cam. The gentleman I spoke to informed me that they developed the cam for Ford to use in their early HIPO street engines. Their cam is identical to the OE cams that came in the early HIPO and very reasonably priced at $200. W/O lifters. Maybe I should throw the idea out to Steve Brule at westech for an episode of Engine Masters,
I would love to see Dyno sheets comparing H-Ms vs Comp Cams.

Thanks Roy and jk66gt350. Both excellent options.

1966 Shelby GT350/GT350H / Cam shaft recommendation
March 25, 2023, 03:17:51 PM
I am trying to stay as true as possible to original build items for 6S281. However, I am currently looking at cam shafts and have seen comp cams kit as well as NOS Ford hipo cam shafts. I'm having a hard time justifying the cost of the Ford original and I'm not sure about the quality of the originals compared to the comp cam kits. This car will be driven spiritedly but not abused, mainly just for fun driving and cruising. My ultimate goal for this engine is to have it behave exactly as it did when the car was new. I would appreciate thoughts and opinions. Here's the link to the comp cam I am considering.

1966 Shelby GT350/GT350H / Thanks Phil Severance
March 24, 2023, 10:19:40 PM
I had to give Phil Severance a plug and a big thank you for restoring to perfection the tach for 6S281.
He is truly the Shelby gauge whisper. It now looks and works like it did in 1965...... beautiful!

I spotted this on EBAY and thought someone on the forum might be able to use it. I believe it is the second style they used in 1966. Seems quite reasonable except the seller doesn't seem interested in shipping.

Although they usually run big cubic inch engines, perhaps a jet boat application? Jet boat engines use water pressure from the jet pump for cooling. IMHO
Great looking engine and intake.

I need a pair of 289 stock Hipo heads. Dates are not important. Please, no cracks, modifications, smog ports or bad rust.
Thanks very much, Karl
