There is an original fan shroud on craigslist
This is not mine, just passing along information. I tried buying the fan shroud without the radiator, however, the gentlemen would not separate.

Hello,

Two possible theory's on why the outer edge of the drum is machined.

1.  During the casting process there could have been excess cast material left on the drum, and to clean off the excess material it would be simple operation to face off the outer edge.  Later on maybe Ford repaired or changed the mold casting design to repair the defect and eliminate the secondary operation.  Maybe different casting plants had different cast molds.
2.   There could have been a secondary operation where they needed to grab the drum from the outside diameter and do a turning operation.  I think this is unlikely, you would chuck up the part from the center diameter of the drum and then perform the turning operation to clean up  the inside diameter.  I cant think of a reason why you would need to mount the drum from the outside diameter and perform a turning operation.

Just a theory.

Thanks,

Tim

Up For Auction / Re: HiPo 289 A66 date code - not right
« on: March 02, 2022, 11:51:58 PM »
Hello,

I looked at the pictures and in my opinion they are different from my original 289 hipo fans.
1. There should be a stamped Fomoco script on the fan blades.
2. The aluminum blade geometry is different, where the blade attaches to the outer most rivets the blade is flared up on my original fan vs straight in the ebay add.  You can look at images on google search and compare.
3.  The stamping looks off in my opinion.
The last fan I purchased was $600.
Anyway good luck on your search.

Looking for 9" rear end snubber plate for 1965-1968 mustang.  Virginia Mustang used to sell them, however they have no stock at this time.  This is spot welded to the floor of the vehicle.

Concours Talk / Re: 289 Hi-Po timing chain
« on: December 09, 2021, 02:52:27 PM »
There is a guy who is selling new 289 hipo timing chain sets on Ebay.

here is the link.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/234315137705?hash=item368e4542a9:g:J7wAAOSwLcBhFpuL

It looks like he has the counter weight and is machining down the lower gear and adding the .125" hole with the roll pin to hold the counterweight into place.  He must have a set up, as the previous poster stated, this is a hardened gear probably around Rockwell 55 hardness.  Cutting down the gear is not too hard with a carbide insert but drilling the hole can be tricky.  You could email him on ebay to see if he would just sell the lower gear or make one up.

Also I have seen NOS lower gears for sale on Ebay.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Tim
