1965 GT350/R-Model / 1965 GT 350 steering wheels
« on: September 06, 2020, 05:24:28 PM »
I know there were many  running changes made in the 65 model production and this group of questions applies to only the 15 inch wheel with slotted spokes:

1) did some original steering wheels have aluminum showing around the outside of the wheel(profile view) as opposed to the wood being wrapped around the rim?

2) did all 15” steering wheels come with chrome over steel attaching hubs?

3) do original steering wheels have any company logo or other identifying numbers/letters in the aluminum?

Thank you, Paul.

Wanted to Buy / Mechanical (solid) lifter
« on: January 18, 2020, 03:19:52 PM »
While assembling a hipo 289 motor, I discovered that one of the valve lifters was damaged in shipment. Upon opening the box of lifters, the package of assembly lube was empty(crushed) and lube had saturated the inside of the box. After looking closely at the lifter, it’s not physically distorted but it will not easily go into or out of any of the lifter bores in my block. Also, all the other lifters will easily go into and out of any/all lifter bores (not a bore problem but lifter).
1) Is it important to use same manufacturer?
2) Does anybody have a source for a single mechanical lifter?
3) Does anybody have a partial set that they be willing to part with?
Thank you, Paul @817-691-0159.

What wiper arm is correct? Both cars in question are 1966 GT 350’s, one  produced at Ford in November 1965 and the other delivered to SA in March 1966. What arms are original, chrome  or brushed finish wiper arms,  bases flared or non-flared? Thank you,Paul

1965 GT350/R-Model / Hipo 289 flywheel
« on: July 29, 2019, 01:00:05 PM »
I purchased a beautiful standard bore hipo block(5 bolt) from forum member. I need a flywheel for it.

1) Is the 5 bolt hipo flywheel different from the hipo flywheel used on a 6 bolt block?

2) If a hipo flywheel is different from non hipo flywheel, how other than paint daub and hardness test mark can I identify it?

Thank you in advance. Paul.

1965 GT350/R-Model / Detroit locker questions
« on: May 28, 2019, 05:57:26 PM »
I seem to remember vaguely how to confirm if a rear end has a locker without disassembling it.
1) without axels installed, you can see right through the 3rd member, end to end.
2) with weight off the rear wheels, turning one wheel by hand also turns other side wheel.
3) with weight off the rear wheels, if one wheel is turned, you cannot hold the other side static.

Any thoughts/corrections? Thank you in advance. Paul.
