Ask a Registrar / Re: 1967 gt 500 tragedy
« on: April 16, 2022, 08:24:32 AM »
I'm reminded of one of Jim Osborne's cars, a white GT500KR convertible, if my memory doesn't fail me, that caught fire while his son was driving it on the way to a show back in the '90's.  Seems the electric top motor shorted out and, before it was discovered, the car became engulfed in flames.  It was a total loss but they brought it back from the "dead" to full concours condition. It can be done!

Jim's was a 69, there was however a red 68 GT500KR convertible with a similar story. I believe sold at auction if memory serves me correctly and then properly treated, then restored several years ago. May even had an article in the SAAC quarterly....

1969-1970 Shelby GT350/500 / Re: Help !! I hate electrical
« on: April 16, 2022, 08:16:37 AM »
Ok, another issue. Doors closed .. connect battery and instantly all the interior lights, side markers and rear tail ight come on. Not Head lights.  I have disconnected the brake light switch, no change, disconnected the turn signal switch harness, no change, just put on a brand new nos HL switch, no change !  Driving me nuts !
Anyone have any ideas? suggestions? known causes, solutions ? Guesses ? Exorcists ?

As always thanks a lot !!
Steve

Steve,

Have you pulled the dash/gauge package off yet to look for previous owner melted/hacked wires and modifications?

I do most certainly feel your pain, as we trace and repair/replace such items on my 70 Shelby convertible. Stopped at the shop this past week and snapped a quick picture of the progress. Have just about everything sorted electric wise, NOS replacement turn signal switch is a bit quirky, and clock is out being restored, otherwise, everything but the AM side of the radio now works, hand written note shoved in dash actually pointed that item out, go figure. Not important, I'll send that out at a later date if I feel the need to listen to southern gospel...LOL

I have recentlly purchased this 1967 shelby GT 500. I have been trying to get it for years and unfortunatly recently the older geltelman caught his garage on fire and it has been destroyed. I am olanning on rebuilding it. He owned it since 1978 and said it was in the registry if any info is available. I updated it with my info today. shelby vin 67411F4A02531. Any help on finding parts and vin tags apriciated. I ordered the deluxe Marti report today. thankyou for any help.

A truly worthy and ambitious endeavour, any chance you can post pictures as the chassis sits today?

Oh boy! Thanks for your continued input!

Somehow the front clip and the rear part got together!

Best case scenario someone made some creative repairs

So far your assessment looks spot on

I can remember a Boss 302 being repaired with a rear clip, base of front right windshield post across to left rear sail panel back in the 80's at an unnamed shop in the southern half of NJ.

Hoping to have the 70 GT350 convertible there, still at the shop awaiting replacement dash harness items.

Have a 70 Mach 1 that has Shelby stickers on front apron, and Shelby American plate, has 69 dash mounted ignition switch, holes that appear to be from 69 vin tag, but has 70 vin sticker

1968 Shelby GT350/500/500KR / Re: 68 KR tuning issue
« on: March 31, 2022, 08:34:18 AM »
Engine builder got back in contact and confirmed 10.5 compression ratio and suggested 38 degrees on the timing. Initial is at 6 BTC.

Made the carburetor changes yesterday but was unable to take for a test drive. The changes were that I installed a 5.5 power valve and changed primary jets to #78's. Increased primary nozzle to #37 and secondary nozzle to #35. Not sure if the weather is going to cooperate today as we are bracing for some bad thunderstorms moving into Central Florida.

Don,

Do you have a vacuum gauge hooked up for bench tuning?
How are you data-logging your timing while driving?
Has the carb been rebuilt, or is it new out of the box?

I ask, as an engine under load will behave differently than an engine being tuned in the garage, at rest so to speak.

Finally, any chance you can get it on a chassis dyno for real world tuning purposes? I learned quite a bit after a good friend bought a chassis dyno and used one of my old Cobra replicas (427 sideoiler) as a benchmark for tuning of the car and different carb configurations (IE: 7 or 8 different carbs, and as you, power valves, jets, etc).

Up For Auction / Re: 69 GT500 for sale (not mine)

I’m interested in knowing more but it seems odd that there are such bad pics and why the weird price? Why is it “1 of 1”? I tried the vin in a few decoders and it didn’t check out. Thoughts? I’m local to the car and in the market but reluctant to call the guy.

I see both Shelby 003 and Chuck Cantwell will be there on April 15th. Anyone going ?

The day is tight schedule wise, but my plan is to also be there, with or without an appropriate car.

Good morning Bill

Please follow your own guidance

Thank you

Tony,

With every one of your posts, you continue to prove me right. As for this subject topic, each time it is posted on the web, it gives traction to the perpetrator, who, as others in Hollywood follow a mindset of "any self promotion that is free, is good for me". Having friends and family in the industry, this is a known fact, not just hearsay. Should such instances of violence be posted and reposted, thus giving credibility to the act and the participants in question more free self promotion, well, you already know my feelings on the subject per my earlier posts.

Up For Auction / Re: 9F02M481896 on BAT

Bid to $75K

My personal opinion, the interaction between the seller and the BAT members asking questions may have had something to do with the high bid. Then again, maybe 75K was all the money in the room that day. We may never know.

By the way you did notice you entered the LOUNGE or the off topic area

Tony,

You will eventually realize that anything posted on the forum, in a publicly accessible area, reflects not only on SAAC, but the SAACforum as a whole.

Honestly, with all that is going on in the world, two self entitled, highly paid "celebrities" going at it on TV in front of a room full of other self entitled individuals is not worthy of coverage. Violence of any kind should not be allowed, nor promoted, whether it is someone famous or otherwise. Especially not here on the SAAC forum or anywhere else. I'm embarrassed that such nonsense has a place here, even if it is posted in the lounge, as it is still associated with the forum in general, and seen by the general public as if SAAC condones it.

Sad, but true.
