Four star review for Drag Lake.

The story starts with a campfire story about a mysterious drag racer and his car Eclipse who vanished in the Drag Lake (what a suiting name). When Shane and Ryan later on drag race against each other, an accident happens. Mary, Ryan's girlfriend, acts as a kind of grid girl and gets hit by Ryan's Challenger. To cover her death, Shane and Ryan sink her body in the lake. What are the consequences for our main characters? Will they meet their destiny by the road demon and drag racer? If you like fast cars, drag racing, American muscle cars from a bygone era (like me) and stories about ghost cars or demon drivers, this is exactly what you were looking for. It definitely isn't great literature but a compelling read with a fine ghost car (good details, also an uncanny lore) and an interesting ending. Very old school, maybe for petrol heads only, but I liked it a lot!

Four star review for Transfusion

The spelling and grammar were much, much better than in 80% of the ebooks out there, so this book was well edited in that regard. However, this story strikes me as either a hasty first draft, or something turned in for a grade in a creative writing class.

It is SOOOOOOO Stephen King. I don't just mean Christine, though that was probably a major influence. The 440 Roadrunner is an evil supernatural force, requiring fresh human blood in place of motor oil. A "Detroit vampire" that corrupts the humans attached to it in predictable ways. And the main character, Curt, is wishy-washy and not terribly bright.

So why does it get four stars instead of three? Two reasons.

One is that the author knows a little bit about cars, which is a whole lot more than the Fast & Furious crowd (and most people who write about cars or motorsports, for that matter).

Two is that, intentionally or not, the automotive vampire serves as a metaphor for what a beautiful, high performance street machine can do to a guy's life. In reality it drains the bank account and free time instead of your blood, but can suck you dry in any case. And the buxom blonde sex vixen in Transfusion works as a parallel metaphor, because girlfriends (or wives) can bleed you even more dry than a street machine will.

99 cents was a fair price.


Four star review of Elixir of Speed

Richard meets a mysterious and very attractive young woman in a bar. Her names Naomie and she's very talented in repairing cars. Her latest ride is an old Speedster she wants to go to the races with. Things starts to get critical for Richard when she offers him irresistible drinks. What's their special formula? Can Richard find out in time before it's to late? Another fine odd tale by Richard Elsliger (I already read several books by this author and was never disappointed). It's a story of men and machines and the role women can assume here. Strange, bizarre and somehow haunting. If you are a gearhead and into horror you definitely should risk a glance.

I am glad you enjoyed it. I want to write more but there are a lot of fun and games going on in the law at the moment, well more so than what I normally encounter.
