Here is a picture of original rear view mirror from 66 Hertz.  Is it true they were painted this color for easy spotting in Shelby's lot prior to shipping?  Is this red paint rear view correct for a 66 Hertz?

I don't believe that all Hertz cars mirrors were painted red. I am not sure if it has been determined the reason why some were red and others not. Maybe someone can clarify.

Mine wasn't . Must have been a "location'' thing.

Randy, mine was also California car (Los Angeles) and was not painted. It could have been a Hertz thing like the tape on the radiator perhaps.

The red mirror is from a Maryland car if this helps

Mine has (had) the red mirror. I heard a rumor that the Hertz cars were Indentified by mirro color, mine was rented out of National Airport in DC/Virginia
Owned since 1971, now driven over 245,000 miles, makes me smile every time I drive it and it makes me feel 21 again.😎

The mirror on 6S550 is not red. Owned it since ford sold it in 1967.   Ron

Don't believe it was done by Ford (San Jose) or Shelby. Hertz allowed different regions to do somethings different from other regions. One example is the inventory identification labeling methods.  Also it does not (so far) appear that this "red mirror" detail was repeated in later years on Hertz cars or at least none have popped up yet

+1  I've never seen a red mirror on anything but an east coast Hertz.

1411 has a standard Mustang mirror, not red. But it does have a Dynamo label with a number on the inside of the glove box door.

I would love to see a picture of that location if you are inclined to share. Thanks in advance.

Would guess ( don't get to see many NY assigned Hertz cars on the West coast) that the Dynamo tape was the plastic version rather then the metal/foil style used at other districts. Thanks for sharing
