Are there some markings on an original fuel pump that make it specific for use in a 1968 Shelby?

Not specific to a 68 Shelby or Shelby unique. The flange numbers on the pumps are for specific engine applications. The trademark Carter design and X mark can be specific to a pump that looks like a assemblyline however.

Kind of a loaded question where the answer could be yes or no. When the GT 500 came out that was the only FE that use the Carter two-piece pump so no Mustang application.  when it was her place with the cobra jet engine, they all had the carter two piece pump but obviously a significant number of them were Shelby's. The carter 4441S is unique to 428 Ford engines

There were some black ink stamp id assembly line markings on top and bottom of the carter pumps that I had  made years ago if you are wanting the details.

Actually the 427 Cougar GT-E came out before the GT500 Shelby and was the first to use the 4441S fuel pump on its 427 side oiler. The 4441S fuel pump was adopted for use in the 428 Shelby GT500 engines and later on the 428CJ after it was already being used on the 427 GT-E.
