Knopfler has released a ton of quality music as a solo artist, including several great car related tunes.

Check out the song "Speedway at Nazareth" off of his "Sailing to Philadelphia" album and be sure to read the lyrics.

One of the best songs about racing ever IMHO.

Mark Knopfler has such a unique sound, almost surprised to see him using a pick in the video.

Saw him a couple years ago and besides the usual Dire Straits hits the whole concert had a very strong Celtic feel.
