On June 1st 2019, Raw Elements, Hawaiian Airlines, Aqua-Aston Hospitality, along with organizations, elected officials and individuals joined forces to celebrate the inaugural World Reef Day and spread awareness about the health of our coral reefs.

The festivities included a special blessing by Tom Pōhaku Stone, a Native Hawaiian surfer and surfboard carver, a ceremonious paddle out to the Hōkūle'a, the Polynesian Voyaging Society's legendary sailing canoe and remarks by Brian Guadagno (founder of Raw Elements USA), Peter Ingram (president and CEO of Hawaiian Airlines), Theresa Van Greunen (senior director of communications for Aqua-Aston Hospitality), Lisa Bishop (president of Friends of Hanauma Bay), Archie Kalepa (leading crewmember with the Polynesian Voyaging Society), Scott Glenn (director of the state of Hawaiʻi's environmental quality control), state Rep. Gene Ward, state Senator Mike Gabbard and U.S. Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard's office.

General disclaimer: First let me say I do not like what I am doing.  I have tried the "quiet way". I have tried rallying the troops. I have tried a strike. For this, I have been threatened and called various names which I shall not repeat. The forum moderator's hands-off policy towards keeping the forum on track and topic has left me with one choice. I have a lot of free time on my hands and will continue this until further notice. If you don't like the off-topic garbage that is being posted, please contact "computerworks" and tell him you came to read about vintage Shelbys and it's time for some moderation.

Calypso Coral reef???(see how I did that?)

Don Johnston

No reefs means no sand, no reef fish, no special surf breaks and no protection of islands from nasty ocean events.  Celebration done with all those listed about a mile from my house. Expect it again this year with everyone scattered around the beach. 8)

There is a SAAC connection to this discussion.

On the cover of the latest 1966 GT350 Registry, the mountain in the background is known as Koko Head and on the opposite side is the crater that encompasses Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve where they had the Coral Reef Day celebration on June 1st, 2019.  Right now it is still closed to the public.

My GT350 on the cover is sitting on crushed reef coral that was dredged long ago for the marina entrance.  It looks nicer than parking lot blacktop.

Aloha, y'all. 8)

Small block eight so live she feels
There she's parked beside the curb
Engine revving to disturb
She's the princess from his past
Red paint gold stripes damned she's fast"

Any Jimmy Buffet fans on this channel????

Fins to the left fins to the right...

She came down from Cincinatti
It took her three days on a train
Looking for some peace and quiet
Hoped to see the sun again
But now she lives down by the ocean
She's taking care to look for sharks
They hang out in the local bars
And they feed right after dark
Can't you feel them circling, honey?
Can't you feel them swimming around?
You got fins to the left, fins to the right
And you're the only bait in town
Oh-oh-woah, oh-oh-woah
You got fins to the left, fins to the right
And you're the only girl in town
She's saving up all of her money
Wants to hit it south in may
Maybe roll in the sand with a rock 'n roll man
Somewhere down Monserat Way
But the money's good, and the season
Helps to lighten up her load
Boys keep her high as the months go by
She's getting post cards from the road
Can't you feel them closing in, honey?
Can't you feel them schooling around?
You got fins to the left, fins to the right
And you're the only girl in town
Sailed off to Antigua
It took her three days on a boat
Looking for some peace and quiet
Maybe keep her dreams afloat
But now she feels like A remora
With the school still close at hand
Just behind the reef are the big white teath
Of the sharks that can swim on the land
Can't you feel them circling, honey?
Can't you feel them schoolin' around?
You got fins to the left, fins to the right
And you're the only bait in town
You got fins to the left, fins to the right
And you're the only girl in town
