Bench test an Electronic Voltage Regulator
« on: June 16, 2020, 12:14:53 PM »
I'm swapping over my old electrical system on my 67 coupe 289 to electronic ignition. And I bought an original 1984 Ford voltage regulator unused on eBay. I'm not an electronics whiz by no means, But How can I bench test it to see if its good?
Thanks for any info.

Not aware of any “bench test” procedures, but do NOT plug it in until it is properly mounted and grounded. Easy enough to install, just be sure it is mounted correctly

I am fortunate enough to have a alternator rebuild shop within a mile of me . I take components like regulator and alternators to them to have checked out . Many auto parts stores have the capability to check alternators but I am not sure about regulators. Typically checking is done at no charge.

Thanks for the info guys. I took my "working voltage regulator" off my 69 and mounted the motorcraft electronic VR in it's place and used my multimeter and it worked great.

Now, I will mount the motorcraft in my 67  ;D
