Anyone have the address where CS lived in Playa del Rey?

I lived in that same neighborhood in those days, albeit as a little kid.

I was thinking the same thing.  Is any of this going to be in the Movie?

Nice to see all the pictures.
In the meantime, happy 96th birthday to Carrol on Jan. 11.    Maybe in two years there should be a special event for number 98. 8)

Indiana SAAC Spring Fling.  Early nineties.  #0036, owner (still Rod T) and Carroll.  Might be the year he drove the Viper Pace car at Indy.  Autographed the car twice that day.  Once on the visor, and again on the center dash piece.   No charge then.

Note "Petersen Publications" on the car roofs.   Bob Petersen owned RIR for many years.  Not sure exactly about 1962, but circa that.

I recall that there was some sort of "situation" between GM and Ford between the Falcon and the Corvair.

Before Nadar even got there, the Corvair was getting some bad press. After all what American car would have a rear positioned, air cooled engine? Sounds like some sort of Neo-Nazi Euro thing right?

When I turned 18, I had $450, was going off to college and bought my first car. A white '63 Corvair Monza 102hp, 4 speed convertible. I remember finding out that it had a two piece flywheel and how.

I decided to take it out on 87 and run it flat out. Well it did go 100 but after started breaking the noses on starters. No one could figure it out. I did when I decided to do a clutch. It must be the clutch right? Well look, I was 18, had just bought my first set of Craftsman sockets and wratchet wrench (1/2" drive!).

Well all of these "experts" were shocked to see an inner and outer ring to the flywheel. Riveted together. The rivets had come loose and it was spinning like a dum-dum.

Then I put headers on the thing. Everyone complained that it sounded like a fire truck. So what, right? It went slower. The headers had leaned out the carbs and I had no idea about that. Again the "experts" were dumbfounded. Amazing. "Must be because the engine is in the back?"

Well anyway. That article is interesting?  It never occurred to me that it might be Shelby that had convinced me of the errors of my ways and to come over to the dark side with him to Ford?

Self discovery is neat isn't it?  8)

The last photo of the guy on the track waving the checkered flag looks like CS from the back and the way he's standing.
