Howdy folks!

As we move into the beginning of July, I have been receiving a great deal of questions regarding what cars and memorabilia are being offered out of the John Atzbach Collection. Hopefully this post gives a good idea of what is on offer and how to view the lots.

The comprehensive information page for the collection is at the following link: https://www.mecum.com/auctions/indianapolis-2020/collections/john-atzbach-collection/

THE MEMORABILIA

The Atzbach Collection features what is likely one of the most extensive collections of Shelby American, as well as Lamborghini, memorabilia in private hands anywhere in the world.

The collection will be sold at NO RESERVE in two different venues.  These venues include LIVE items as well as OnTime items.

LIVE Auctions
There will be, roughly, 1,200 lots sold over the course of Thursday, Friday, and Saturday live on the “Road Art” auction stage at Indianapolis. These items are, in general, the most important items of the sale. In addition to bidding in person, interested parties can also bid by phone or internet bid. Links to these auctions broken down by their run day are below:

Thursday: https://www.mecum.com/auctions/indy-roadart-2020/lots/roadart/07/16/
Friday: https://www.mecum.com/auctions/indy-roadart-2020/lots/roadart/07/17/feature/P/
Saturday: https://www.mecum.com/auctions/indy-roadart-2020/lots/roadart/07/18/

“On Time”  Auctions
The second way memorabilia lots will be sold is through Mecum’s online bidding platform. This platform is called “On Time”. There will be a total of nearly 2,800 lots sold using the “On Time” format and those items are divided into 22 different themed auctions.

A link to the themed “On Time” auctions can be found here: https://ontime.mecum.com/

Bidding is set to open on these items starting tomorrow, July 1 and these themed auctions end on various days of the live auction. A full schedule is visible at the link posted above.

TO REGISTER TO BID

Please note: If you are planning to register to bid on Live Memorabilia lots, a separate registration is necessary for OnTime bidding as well.

Thanks so much to all who have asked questions so far and I’m happy to personally answer any additional questions you might have about the sale. Preparing this collection to cross the block has been a monumental task and I think the Shelby hobby is in for quite a show when all these lots go “under the gavel” in Indy in just a few weeks time!

Kind regards,
Vern

Hi Vern,

Thanks for sharing.

(1)  Will the "On Time" bidding be like a real auction, where you will need to watch you bid to the end, or more like eBay with the proxy bidding format?  Bid you max and then watch others bid you up, or you max bid will be the high bid?

(2) What will be the bid increments?  I will assume, the increments increase the larger the dollar amount.

Thanks

Cory

Hey Cory!

In general, its kind of "both" in regards to the auction format. You will see noted on each auction what the bid increment is (seems to be mostly currently noted at $5 although I am not certain if that increases as the item price goes up) but the bidder has a choice of whether to bid one increment higher on an item or to simply enter in what their max bid is for Mecum's system to then do the heavy lifting for you. If you enter a "max bid", the price does not automatically become the high bid on the item, another under-bidder must get the auction to that point.

Kind regards,
Vern
