Shelby?
« on: July 15, 2020, 06:27:23 PM »
Curious if anyone knows what this car is all about.  Supposedly has a Shelby VIN tag, but is not really legible.
Was purported to be a Cobra "Prototype".
Anyone have a clue?

Thanks

My guess is a bugeye Sprite with a custom front end.

Very unlikely

That style tag was never used on the aluminum bodied Cobra roadsters.

☹️

The Shelby club is aware of all Cobra serial numbers and all “prototypes”

Thanks for the replies.  The family that owns this isn't trying to pawn it off as a Shelby.  They are not familiar with the car and is a hand me down from a relative.  I just offered to put it put there for info.

Yes, that is the wrong VIN tag for an early Cobra prototype. It may have magical powers and make Pinochio's nose grow quite a bit though? ;)

First off that is a 67 GT350/500 Shelby tag . Second the tag in the picture does not compare favorably to the 67 Shelby tag it was copied after. It appears to be a older reproduction. FYI the tags have been reproduced for at least 30 years that I am aware of. From all appearances someone apparently took a repro 67 Shelby tag and stamped it up in the hopes of legitimizing in some way the odd ball car.

There was an Austin Healey Sprite that I think was used by the Shelby Driving School (see image), maybe this is the car ? ?

There were some racing Sprites with a nose like that also.

Some one here will come up with the answer.

Kinda looks like an early Austin Healy Sprite (bug-eye or frog-eye) with the tilt nose that's been modified...

Im certain the guy that put the tag on there never intended for it to be be mistaken for a Shelby. At least thats what they all say.

So is it a Cobite or a Sprbra?  Probably owned by CS at some point! Right up there in rarity with the Lonestar.  ::)

If you look at my 2 posts here, I have made it clear that no one is trying to pass this along as a "Registered" Shelby by SAAC.  This is a member of a family that inherited the car and asked for assistance.  I guess the sheltered covid crowd is a might snippity these days.
