Do you know if the car originated from the Hertz cars shipped to Minnesota? There were only nine cars that were shipped to Minnesota. The list is as follows: 814 Black), 1182 (Blue), 1183 (Blue), 1317 (Black), 1378 (Black), 1660 (Black), 1666 (Black), 1778 (Black) and 1932 (Black).

I hope this helps.

Thank you all of you for your help.
All of this information has opened my eyes that there is so much more out there to find it than I thought.
Unfortunately the things that would make this so much easier have been "lost" in the last 50 years.

My dad can't positively state where it originated.  (It would have made it so much easier narrowing it down to those 9) being so positive on the vin and now decisive doesn't help.

I'll leave you guys alone unless I can get something concrete to work with.  I don't want to waste anyone's time.  The wealth of knowledge here is amazing

Please don't give up so easily. We would NEVER want to discourage anyone in finding their connection to these amazing cars. Just keep trying to piece together whatever may come to mind and see if others will chime in with some other lead for us to follow. I do hope that there will be more to this story.

I have traced down a great deal of information on some of my cars.

Good luck hunting.

Thank you for the kind reply.  Truly car people at heart.  I called my dad and told him everything I found out.  He doesn't believe it was originally a Minnesota car. He was also pretty animate about remembering the numbers and starting with 9 (I'm guessing "09") but I know that doesn't help to much.
I don't know if the DMV would retain any of the information under his name/license but he said he would look into it (hopefully he can find the vin for my 1st car a 85 mustang gt😁)

If I do find the car I'll have to write up a new post with all of the stories and history I know of it so it can stay with the vehicle for future.🤞

Now that’s interesting to me only because my dad was so sure about “958” but he seemed to only remember SFM 958. Not SFM 6S ****
Knowing that the car was street not race and a ‘66 I put the middle together and assumed the rest.  I am only learning all this as I go so the whole Shelby vin is all new to me

Is there anything else known out there for 6S1958?

It does help, and yes his did too.

I was doing some research for my car and came across this thread. There are a couple of things that may line up with at least some of your Dads memory.

I have 6S1534.  It was previously owned by Fred Rice and was in an accident.  It also had (and still has) the chrome magnum wheels. It is an Ivy Green car, but Fred and his mate Clem La Chance panted it white with the blue stripes in the early 70's. It is not a Herz car.

It was subsequently returned to Ivy Green which it still is today.

Thanks StanG I will inform my dad about your info and see if anything rings a bell to him.  I doubt it was his as I know his was a hertz black car.  But every little thing helps!
