It's interesting P1005 is now vintage racing.

The photos were on the GT40 forum.
This appears to align with the reports of the burned chassis due to a garage fire was left to sink into a river bank.

I believe chassis #1127 was used to "restore" this car.

"I believe chassis #1127 was used to "restore" this car."

So, in other words, they did a VIN Swap with Chassis #1127 and #1127 is NOW P1005..........

It's been a while but "someone" told me many of the Mark I's had significant rust. Particularly in the roof sections.

I could do the chassis on 1005, but forget about the roof. Of course if you wine me and dine me with the right beverages I would think I could redo anything. Alcohol can be a wonderful thing?  8)

It would be very difficult to redo this one without the original bucks. It's possible though. Give me "a couple of weeks?"

Production road coupe GT40P/1070.

So was it dredged up out of the river?

I will wager it gets rebuilt.

This is GT40 P/1070, after the fire, before the fire and then the "Current" car...

The after the fire photo does look similar to the car in the beginning of this thread but it's a different car than the one in the subject of this thread)

I believe this was the Mk1 GT40 that a Mr Bair of Ohio was seriously burned in while driving on a public road after the fuel cell ruptured and the rear tires flung fuel onto the hot exhaust, it nearly killed him. Fran Kress acquired  the remains and rebuilt the car. Sorry I don't have my registry in front of me for the chassis number but the OHIO plate leads me to believe this is that GT40. If my memory is correct Mr Bair went after Ford for a product liability suit regarding the fuel cells. Both JD and I know Mr Bair.

yes - GT40 P/1070.  (page 1017 in the 2008 Cobra GT40 Registry)  For years the remains of the car sat in a backyard out in the country.  That's where I saw it.

I bought the Shelby I had from him, the for sale sign for the Maserati Birdcage was in the trunk of the Shelby.  The Birdcage is in the Indy Museum.  Here's Bair reunited with the car at the brickyard.

That's him, he's had some very interesting cars over the years. His brother Jack raced the Birdcage and was an accomplished go-cart when he was younger.
