For those that have not been, MCACN is a must see event. If I was fortunate enough to own a Hertz car I would certainly enter it!!

A truthful statement, we are trying to get the most complete Hertz collection of cars ever assembled. If you own or know anybody who owns one that’s not black/gold send your request to the MCACN

In 1968 Shelby and Hertz rented Shelby Automotive / AO Smith built GT350 and Cougar XR7-G vehicles. Have you got any XR7-G's for the show yet?

Hey there Royce -

Steve reached out to me several months ago about some of my father-in-law's Hertz items I had for sale. We of course got to talking about Hertz Gs so that is when I reached out to you and Gavin and Phil about a unique Hertz G that hadn't been on display at MCACN yet.

That is actually when you told me about Eric's G that was a show unit and the earliest one known to exist.

So I have gotten Eric and Steve together on that and hopefully they can work something out.

Also, I provided Steve with some nice, color copies made from my original Hertz counter brochure that you posted.

I have not seen Eric T's car but the history is as good as it gets! Factory show unit, the earliest Hertz contract XR7-G known to exist. I would love to see it there.

Does anyone have a definitive list as to what cars could be rented from Hertz during these 'golden years'?  Are there any forgotten sports cars that might be sitting under peoples noses without them even knowing?

Thanks,

This is what I’ve found so far for the 60’s
1963 Spilt Window Corvette all white with red interiors, powerglide with Sji racks and snow tires, one sold at B/J last year
1966 Shelby GT350H, sold in the following Combinations Black/Gold, Green/Gold, Blue/Gold, Red/Gold, White/Gold and apparently 18 White/Blue, most automatics, approx 85 were 4 Speeds
1968 GT350’s, various colors, no outside identifiers such as stripe
1969 GT350’s various colors, no outside identification such as stripes
1968 Cougar XR7/G, most if not all had 390’s with automatics, factory A/C and factory Sunroof
These make us the majority of the cars from the 60’s, they also had Hertz Indy Pace car Mustangs in the 1994
They reintroduced the black/gold Hertz cars in the 2006 and I’ve seen a Penske Hertz black and gold later model Mustang
They had late model shelbys and corvette models in their recent adrenaline collection
Maybe more that I’m not aware of
Owned since 1971, now driven over 245,000 miles, makes me smile every time I drive it and it makes me feel 21 again.😎

The Cougar Eliminators were also offered as a part of the Hertz Sports Car Club in 1969 (first year for the Eliminator) and 1970.

Interestingly, the Hertz Eliminators received factory sunroofs (like the Hertz XR7-Gs). That was the only way you could get a factory sunroof on an Eliminator and without a vinyl roof.

Regular production Eliminators could not be ordered with a sunroof and you couldn't order a sunroof on any Cougar from the dealer without the vinyl top.

Lots of great information in the book "Spoilers hold it down. Nothing holds it back. The 1969 & 1970 Mercury Cougar Eliminator" by Don Skinner.
