the Test is well known and described in the Sports Car Graphic Issue from October

like described in the last line of the articel

Side-Oilers

Stephan and Rich:  Thanks very much for the additional info/photos of the cracked windshield.  Yep, cracked.

On the Sports Car Graphic cover, it's interesting that they chose to show two large photos of the Toronado, and nothing else.
Yes, I get that it was new and cool and all that. But a "sports car"...hardly.

The GT-40 track drive, Ferrari GTB test and the Chaparral at Indy would seem to have been better cover car material.

Wonder if there was an Olds ad inside.   ;D
Current:
2006 FGT, Tungsten. Whipple, HRE 20s, Ohlin coil-overs. Top Speed Certified 210.7 mph.

Kirkham Cobra 427.  482-inch aluminum side-oiler. Tremec 5-spd.

Previous:
1968 GT500KR #2575 (1982-2022)
1970 Ranchero GT 429
1969 LTD Country Squire 429

on the

National Championchip Sports Car Races

i find a little bit Information, mostly is relativ new and seen here
in the Forum...

i will a little be copy and paste in Thread also for a better correct Timeline
Thanks again to Richstand (Rich) for the Pics and Infos

on the Race Lew Spencer drove the GT/108 as a Pace Car,

on this wonderfull Pic from the Race we can see 5R001 and 5R002

the Video for the Race is here
https://youtu.be/-I8Z6LjLxqg

on the Race Programm in Class B Production startet the two R`s

*32 (5R001) is driven by Jerry Titus,
*26 (5R002) is driven by Ed Leslie and owend by Cuck Cantwell ?
(this was a little surprising to read for me)

Sponsor was Shelby American and S&C Motors

next step was that GT/108 was stayed in the San Francisco Aera,
it is written that the Car
"was taken under consigment by Hank Medeiros at Hayward Motors in San Francisco"

(i dont understand this Term very good in German, maybe can explore me what
this means ...)

for thePics and Infos over Hayward Motors i have to thank Coralsnake,
for exactly Information please click the link
http://www.thecoralsnake.com/Hayward

of course is would be very nice to have a pic from GT/108
on a display or showroom like this,
but nothing to found anywhere

a very cool Item are the jackets from Hayward Motors

Next (and last Stop) is the US Gran Prix at Watskin Glen,
any thoughts are welcome

Chuck Cantwell likely entered 5r002 on behalf of Shelby American. He never owner it that I'm aware of.
It would be nice if someone found a photo of the GT/108 pacing the field before the race.

(On consignment, means they are representing the owner to help sell the car.)
Knowing the car never sold by Hayward, perhaps it was meant to be on display only, but on paper listed as a consignment.
Maybe someone else can fill in that detail more accurately.

Stephan, I hope I'm not jumping ahead of you !

Szabo

Hello at all,

today i would like to finish the, hopefully after this thread, known Promo Tour of GT/108

Grand Prix of the United States on Watkins Glen
from 1 - 3 October 1965

most of the Pics are known and well posted from Mike ( Honker), thank you
any thoughts and answers are always welcome, and like the car, you was a little bit fast  :)

Please note that a this point the hood was flat black and the thin-wide-thin triple Stripe was
on the Car... this was the first time in 65 when we see that.

i will post two more Pics for better overview and little bit wider view
of the event

the first one is good because we see a GT350 R in the backround,
he was also doing a promo round on Watkins Glen

the second on is shown only this GT350 R in HQ Pic

My collected and sorted Pics and Infos are almost done...

I hope you have some fun and maybe found ne pics and Infos
of this true SA history point in time

Greets

Steve

P.S.:

Of course i found some more Pics i will post here, maybe anybody has
an Idea when was the pics made, and which person take a seat.

Note that the stripe is modified and have the same form and size which
was it on 2014 on the known auction

Richstang

Stephan;

Nice work putting the timeline together on GT/108. I like the added race programs and the road test from the period magazine.
I had two more photos from Watkins Glen in my files. After this, the car disappears from the public spotlight.

Hallo again,

i found two pics on a FB Site "GT350Lady" but without any source or Infos...

we can clearly see the GT/108 with blacked hood and Racestripe

and luckywise we can see a GT350R, a Daytona, a GT40, a Cobra
and a Lotus Ford ?

because of Richstang we know that the GT40 was P/1004, thx for that Info

but where or when was the Pic made ???

a Detail we see in the backround is that tower and so
Richstang and myself tryed to see that Tower on Watkins Glen,
because we know the GT/108 was on that Timecode in the same look

i found some pics for Watkins Glen with a tower but it seems to be
two different because in the direct Pic we see no forest in the backround

on the bird view pic there was everywhere forrest behind the tower

Maybe somebody here has any thought or know something about Watkins Glen
or even better the standort from the towers

i tried to maximize the tower and worked a little bit of the pic
i marked my thougts on the Pic

The first two photos, posted by Stephan, with this group of Shelby's is a fantastic site and find!!!
At first I didn't think it was at Watkins Glen, but there too many coincidences pointing to that location.

Looks at the collection of cars here;
The Cobra CSX3011 no98 to the left in the first photo
The GT40 P/1004 in front of the Cobra
The GT350 R model is what I believe to be 5R213 in front of the GT40
The Daytona to the right of the GT350 R model appears to be CSX2287 (note the no10 on the rear)
The Roadster GT/108 with the blackout hood

This appears to be a preview of the cars that would become part of the 'Cobra Caravan' that toured the country for a month, starting November 17 through December 17th, 1965.

-The Daytona csx2287, went on to the Bonneville Salt Flats November 6, 1965. It needed to be refreshed afterwards, so it was replaced for the start of the Cobra Caravan tour with CSX2286.
-The previous rear view photo, posted in this thread of the lone '65 GT350 R model, was said to be a pace car at the October 2-3, 1965 Watkins Glen US GP race.
It certainly matches in appearance (no rear bumper or sponsors) and the timing fits. The R model in the Caravan has been said to be 5R213.
-Finally the Grand Prix car race no7, Brabham BT11, was in Watkins Glen for the US Grand Prix. That matches perfectly in timing.

I am impressed with the sleuthing presented in this thread. I, unfortunately, don't have any knowledge to share.
