Forum member masking names
« on: January 20, 2018, 08:13:49 PM »
I sure am happy to see a few old members drop the mask of a alias name on the forum and use something closer to their given name . I hope more do that. I know they seem fun but I think it has more integrity showing that you own what you say plus easier to remember who is who. But that is just me.

If it was a club forum and you needed to be a SAAC member to access it more people might be willing to use their names.  I prefer to have a level of anonymity when everything posted is open for anyone with internet access to see.  But that is just me.

    • And how many words have I got to say? And how many times will it be this way? With your arms around the future And your back up against the past You're already falling It's calling you on to face the music And the song that is coming through You

My business operates under my name. People search the name regularly (for obvious reasons).

I have no desire to share my private interests with the people who do those searches.

But I don't have a problem sharing with members thru private messages.

When re-signing up I had talked to Bill via messenger and he asked that I try and use my same user name and not poach anyone elses so I didn't want to screw Gary Boehnlein by poaching his name  ;D  so I went with Shelbymann which is the same on many other forums so it transcends thru. Gary

Gary,

I think I was more worried about you or someone else with nefarious reasons to be signing up as Bob Gaines  ;)

I agree 100%. I don't like putting my name out into cyberland. Its too risky, especially in public forums like this one. It was already spammed by malicious porn sites the first few hours it was online again. Im also worried about people who post pics of their cars license tags or vin #s. Your home address is only a few key strokes away with limited personal information. Rodster-500 is right, lets just make this a members only forum.

This part I disagree with. This group and SAAC in general needs a constant flow of new members.

Making the forum private is not conducive to getting new people excited about the organization, the history and the cars.
