For the 1970 Gt500 automatics cars:   During the 69-to-70 conversion,  was the existing "born-with" carb modified...or rather was a replacement carb swapped out in place of the original carb ?

My understanding is the distributor was a swap-out scenario, but I can't seem to specifics on how the carb mod was executed (i.e. carb swap vs. carb mod).

Knowing this would help me determine appropriate date code for my 02/28/69 built 70 GT500 auto.   Trying to determine whether to be in the ballpark of a 91_ date versus 97_ date.

Thanks

They used the original carbs, I seem to recall them stamping the carb tags with an "ED".

This was done after the changes were made.

Special Ed

The 70 carbs were modified at kk plant converted from auto to manual chokes then the tag was stamped ED  edited. I have found the 70 cj carbs dates to be out of line in date codes after talking to kk workers these carbs were done in batches and the original carb may not have ended up on the same cars date code wise after being removed in some cases.

There was a urban legend that Special Ed would go around and stamp ED on those tags to show that he had been there in a magical way like the tooth fairy leaving money under the pillow. :D
