The Raydyot mirrors do have a flat mounting plinth(hope that´s the correct word for it).
Now, if I want to mount it at the correct place on a 65, the door is not flat, but concave.
Any hints, tips, ideas what to do ? Maybe a thick piece of rubber ?
I haven´t seen a original R door in the metal unfortunately.

Thank you for any help.

I made a 1/4" circular aluminum base that is shaped to the profile of the top of the door. Used a gasket as well as can be seen in the photos.

Not sure if this is what was done on the original cars, but seemed like the only logical solution to me.

That is a great idea - two, please !  ;)
Thank you for the photos.
Would be a good work for the winter.

PM sent Don, I wonder if anyone can chime in with what they did and maybe some vintage photos?

Sorry for bringing this up again - no more ideas / hints ?
Unfortunately I cannot decipher from R Model photos how they did it.

Found a solution after some thinking and more fiddling... ;D
Used some sponge type rubber, quite hard but compressable. Cut it roughly into shape of the convex door top and put it between mirror foot and rubber disc. It works and doesn´t look too bodged.

I use the original chromed version of the Raydyot which is also a bit heavier than the more common lighter aluminum version. Since the base only contacted the edge of the "dip", I ground both sides of the contact edge base wide enough so it wouldn't rock fore and aft. I also made a large curved washer the same contour as the dip for the underside next to mounting lock nut. The mirror is good and steady.

Also a good solution. Will see if my version will work when in use.
;)If not, will bring out the Dremel and follow your way.

Had enough 1/4" aluminum plate to make six (6) 1 5/8" O.D. Raydot mirror bases with 1/4" diameter hole for mirror attachment. Will need to be shaped to the proper profile depending on the location the mirror is placed on the door. If interested in mirror base blank, PM me or send email to gt350bp@bellsouth.net

Don - too bad, a bit too late for me now...
Have already put the R model door trims in etc. Don´t want to remove them again, I am afraid of scratching the paint when removing the clips.

All six (6) mirror base blanks are spoken for.

Merry Christmas to all!
