Restoring GT350 #1341 (build 2-28-67), of which has had its steering converted to manual sometime in its life.  It was a full conversion as my steering box is an SMB - F.  What is the correct steering box should I have SMB - E or SMB - K?

Thanks
Carl

According to the 2011 SAAC registry, page 1322, and the build date of your car - it would seem you are looking for a "long Shaft" type (no rag joint) and a SMB-B unit.

Early GT350s had the "spear" type SMB-B. Mine was date coded 2 months (approx) prior to car build.
From what I understand the rag joint style was fitted to the BB so the box could be removed without removing the engine.
The spear style can be removed from the SB car without engine removal.

Edit -- Add early

Some time in May of 67 is when all SB changed over to the rag joint .

Best of luck with finding the correct box . They werer not shelby unique so there is a large pool of
Mustangs to pull from. FYI if after you find the right box and if you are particular about tags and such and you can't find a SMB-B box with a appropriate date code it is probably easier to have a tag made up with the date code of your choice . There is a friend who frequently sells on ebay that makes the metal tags up. If that doesn't matter to you no harm no foul but just wanted you to know that there are alternatives.

Thank you Bob!  I see on John's Mustang website they have rebuilt SMB-B units. I enquired about P/N on case, I believe I need a C6ZR case vs C3DR
