assembly line style air filters

Would like the experts to inform us on the differences of assembly line air filters..   The C7SF FA 41  and the C8AF   FA 50

I have had both made and feel we should inform the collectors and enthusiast that don't know the differences.

This applies to 1968s...

The FA 50 is taller.

Both the FA 50 and the more common FA 41 were used on GT500 KRs depending on the build date.

Fa 50 was also used on 69 gt350 boss 351 71 429cj scj mustang as well as many other cars and the filters chris made were of my assembly line wire type mesh NOT the service replacement round hole type mesh.  fa41 was 67 and up mostly big block  and performance cars 390 gt 428 cj scj boss 302 -429 etc. This is a much needed concours part and the assembly line type were never serviced and nos autolite filters are rare and expensive and have dried up.  The fa50 and fa41 airfilter is a highly visable part on KRs  69-70 shelbys boss 429s boss 351s 71 429 cj scj mustangs  cars that have an open element ram air assembly where u ca see the filter inside the air cleaner base when u open the hood.  Also wouldnt the c7sf  fa 41 be correct  for 67 gt350s.

Thanks to all three  of you but I still have a question. What # KR would take the FA50 and what# takes the FA 41? I have a June built KR and a July  KR. Do we know what #s take which one? Thanks

You are the FA41

Only the very early KRs had FA 50 as noted on the build sheets

It is believed the "C9ZAA" air cleaner assy used the FA50

The "C9ZAC" used the FA41

Pete, this is my build sheet. So what filter? I see an "AC" in the boxes

Ill defer to the 69 experts, but it looks that goes with the FA41 to me

As Pete pointed out build sheet air cleaner identifies but probably less than first month of KR production got the AA cleaner (FA 50) so June/July cars no. If I had to pick an arbitrary date I'd put around 5/14-5/21 for change. Had a 5/23 with original element and was FA 41

Tim  & pete do u think the kr filter change had anything to do with airflow as the taller fa50 sits up higher and since the kr foam ram air seal was glued to the INSIDE of the 16" 1/4'' wide base it was a small gap area between the foam seal and the filter for air flow but by using the shorter fa 41 the filter sat down lower and didnt that change the gap between the filter top and the foam seal.  Has anybody ever measured the gap between the 2 filters on a kr air cleaner base with the rubber seal glued in place? The 69 gt350 air cleaner base is a c8a # on build sheet and thats a non performance air cleaner base being 17'' wide and those bases used a fa50 i always thought and the decal was c8af-c   fa-50

I have not heard a good explanation why there are two air cleaners with different engineering numbers on KRs.

I don't have a good reason as the seal to hood contact is same with both filters. The FA 50 just sticks up further. Maybe more is not better?

Thank you for all the input.  It has been suggested to show application so here is what i have gathered so far.

FA-50's were used on the following:
•   69 GT350
•   71 Boss 351
•   71 429 Cobra Jet
•   71 429 Super Cobra Jet
•   68 GT 500 KR's (early production)
o   Estimated around 1st month of production (June or July)


Do i need to add anything?
