Randy,

I am aware the plates did not come from the dealer, but as you stated, sometimes from local DMV Offices.  I also have the steering column spring holder as used by the original owner.

Jeff,

Thanks for providing the requested information. Another plated added.

Also thanks to those listing 6S1820, 6S2020 and 6S2082. I already had these in my records.

Randy as well for his input as well as previous help.

If anyone else has something regarding other original issue plates, please let me know.

Thanks,

Dennis

I cannot guarantee the information I have is for the original plates for 6S1575 sold by Fellini-Mayfield Ford in Springfield Missouri June of '66, but I have the original bill of sale from the 1st owner who lived in Springfield, to the second owner here in Ontario Canada.  $1,900 in October of 1971 BTW).  On the receipt it lists the license plate as 522-87A.  That number / letter combination is not consistent with Ontario plates that were issued back then, and it looks like Missouri plates in 1966 did have a combination of 6 numbers and letters, so I expect there is a reasonable chance that 522-87A was the original plate as it appears Missouri used stickers to update their plates after issuing them back then.  Up to you Dennis if you want to add that info to your database.  John

John:

Thanks for the information. I have added this information noted as you have stated as may or may not be correct. I could not find the number letter sequence on any Missouri plates. Are the plates black letters on white background with MO left top and 66 right top?

Thanks,

Dennis

The only info I have is the plate number as mentioned on the bill of sale.  No idea what the plates looked like.  I believe the period correct plates were maroon with with white letters from samples I have seen online.

As a follow up.  IDed the car and it (according to the Registry) was not sold until almost have way through the 67 production year (Dec 66) explaining the unusual Calif license plate number sequence as we suspected. Just sat around SAI for a long time in the back lot it seems.

" ....Picked up by the original owner Jim Marxxxx (San Francisco, CA) 12/8/66 at Hi-Performance Motors, Inc (El Segundo, CA) but sold through Hayward Motors (Hayward, CA) 12/5/66......"

Car is 6S1727 from my records and pictures. Hope this settles the mystery ;)

Thanks, Jeff. Armed with "6S1727", I found that I did have the car labeled!

Most CA dealers picked up their plates from DMV then called the owner to come in and have them installed. The Hertz cars may be different. Randy's car was delivered to Hertz at LAX in February as was 843. Hi Performance Motors was the dealer for 843 but there is a big difference in license numbers his RZP. 843 was SRL it was delivered mid month if I remember. Deathsled has the invoice now.
My sister bought her 68 GT/CS well after the 69s were out in March or April it was ZAZ near the end of the Black plates.

Randy,

I have all the plates in the group LA brake test cars (all received RZP) except I am missing the numbers for 6S446, 6S449 and 6S463.

Can anyone help out with these three?

Dennis

  Dennis ,
I have the actual "suspense receipt" for 841 and the plate number is SRM 340 dated Feb 17 1966. Hertz LA "Avenue of the stars" address. I would like to reunite it with the current owner of 841.

Randy,

That is one that I did Not have - number is consistent with others during that period. Could you send me a copy of the "Suspense receipt"? You can PM if you like.

Great gesture on your part to reunite with current owner.

Thanks,

Dennis

It may not come out of the holder in one piece. I don't want to destroy it for a copy.

Sportyworty,

Thanks for that add of 6S2299, I did not have yours recorded.

Randy,

In reviewing my picture files I came across the following Mustang 360 article:

http://www.mustangandfords.com/featured-vehicles/1703-test-driving-revology-cars-shelby-g-t-350-replica/

I had asked on the old forums if anyone knew the VIN matching this plate and there was no response.

Perhaps you can locate Mark Pietloch through Revology. I am sure he would appreciate the document.

Good luck,

Dennis
