I have a customer who wants to run torque thrust on at 65 as he's going to be driving it. The tires are 215 60 15 Avon's. Will 7 inch fit or do we need to stick with 6 inch? Thanks in advance

On my '66 I am running repro Style Steel wheels with 4-5/8" BS and 215/60X15s on the front.  They will touch the fender lip occasionally - like low speed, wheel turned hard, over a bump.  My car sits fairly low.  No problem in the back - I am running 235/60X15s.

You might check with Cobra Automotive on fitment, but I would think the 15X7 w/ .200" neg offset would fit with those using either the 215 or 225. You might even consider 215's on the front and 225's out back.

Tim,
I run a set of PS Engineering TA wheels 15x8 with a 4 3/8" back spacing on my 65 front tires are 225/60-15 fronts and 245/60-15 rears. Unfortunately these wheels are no longer available from Phil Schmidt.

There are however American Racing 15x8 Torque Thrusts new version "D's" with a 4 1/2" back spacing. In order to achieve the same positioning as the PS wheels I have to add 1/8" spacers. I believe these wheels are readily available.

Wheel on the left is the AR 15x8 the mounted is the 15x8 PS Eng. wheel (see pic).

A currently available 15x7 only has a 3 3/4" back spacing which only allows a 215/60-15 and possibly another size without flatting the fenders/un-modified. It will also allow a 6.00/15 race tire, i.e. Goodyear Eagle, Hoosier, etc but needs fenders to be flattened (modified).

Cheers,

American Racing 15 x 7 Torq Thrust with 225 60 x15 front and 245 60 x 15 rear. Wheel lips flattened for additional clearance. Have 255 60 x 15 Comp TA R1's for the rear also, but they will rub if full tank of fuel in an R-model tank.
