Were any R models built in Venice?
« on: June 05, 2021, 12:26:05 PM »
Doing a mini Venice garage and looking to add an R model if it is period correct. I would like to add 5R002 but they made the wipers so ugly on this die cast. I can't get by it.

Small block eight so live she feels
There she's parked beside the curb
Engine revving to disturb
She's the princess from his past
Red paint gold stripes damned she's fast"

It looks like 5r002 was built in Venice. It might be the only R model built there.

The first 50 or so GT350s were built at the Carter Ave building (across the field from Princeton). GT350 Production started there and was moved to the airport when they needed more space. There have been some posts about driving the cars from Venice to the airport.
I don't know if the prototypes were done at Carter or Princeton where they'd be closer to the race shop and watchful eye of Carroll.

I just looked at a map and Carter is now called Jefferson Way

https://www.google.com/maps/place/Carter+Ave,+Los+Angeles,+CA+90292/@33.9872481,-118.4469934,126a,35y,71.41h,45t/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x80c2ba8f2370faaf:0x143dac3bbe4ed91f!8m2!3d33.9887701!4d-118.4469444?hl=en

3221 Carter Ave is now 3221 Jefferson - turn right on Princeton at the end of the block to get to 1042.

https://www.google.com/maps/@33.9874804,-118.4457518,3a,49.2y,166.83h,90.74t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1skW9lJMYP5hpTTdF5Uw7_3A!2e0!7i16384!8i8192?hl=en

and the field is full of apartments (Side LA was SA)

Thank you gentlemen.  Always good to have resident experts on hand to ask these questions.  Your input is greatly appreciated and your knowledge greatly admired on my part.

Stick with us Grasshopper your knowledge continues to grow. There are a million little details that will be lost and never recalled or published unless some question piques a memory of an old guy. I moused my way along the streets I linked above and realize how much of that history has been erased by the march of time. Could you imagine the residents of those apartments complaining about those damn hot rodders across the street in the 60s?

very nice to read you plan a "Princeton Drive" Dio

i worked also on this project, but only in my mind for years ... i planned to visit the place in near future ... hopefully
it stands like it is now, to make some scale exactly messures

For your Modelcars it seems you want to use M2 Machines ... they are hard to use in the 1.64 Scale, because the Models
are not in this scale

Maybe for you the Models from Greenlight (better for real 1.64 scale)
or Shelby Collectibles (they Re-Relase the old molds in new Package) are better...

the only "R" Model i know was 5R002 in some Pics... the other R was delieverd to Carter on there
or at LAX converted and assembeld.

I cant agree that Princeton Drive and Carter Avenue is renamed to Jefferson,
on my two Threads i added some Pics from Google Earth and so you see it clear.

This is about as good as it is going to get for my Princeton diorama.  I would need 3d printer assistance to duplicate the top floor and it looks like it only had a one car garage opener?

Yes,
Greenlight makes a very nice inexpensive 64th scale replica to mess around with.

If you were really ambitious, you could get two of those buildings.
Take one apart to correct the front facade by filling in the second garage door with brick from the side or maybe from the back.
Maybe even combine them both to make a deeper interior of the Princeton shop.

Here my 50 Cents of making a little Dio

Normally i would love to do LAX in 1.64 scale ... but even in 1.64 it is to large to store it anywhere...

dont laughing but i would do it on some LEGO stones and then cover it with the Textur of the Greenlight brick stones...
but still only thoughts in my head...

Two garages as one is a good idea, Richstang.  And Stefan, is that your diorama or is it photoshopped?  It looks very excellent!

You guys need to hit the model train store for panels of scale bricks, roofing, trees, etc. Model railroad S scale is 1:64.
